Surgery date March 16th, who's with me? ????

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone is home and doing well. I can say the surgery went well, my problems began the next day. I had breast cancer a year ago and with that I only have one arm they can use for blood pressure, ivs and taken blood. I was dehydrated making it difficult to have blood drawn, but after the 4th try and no go I was getting nauseous. Not a good combo when they send you down to have the test to determine if there was any leakage. Thankfully after a bit of anti-nausea meds, some pin killers and a nap, I was able to go home at 4:30 last night.

I'm feeling good this morning trying to get in some Protein and any other liquids I can.

My doctor said nothing over 15lbs. I'll probably have to pick her up a couple of times, but definitely hoping my 11yr old can help me out. She'll be going to the baby sitter everyday. So it's just a matter of getting her out to the car each morning. We don't have any family near us, but we also haven't told anyone about or surgery except for my husbands brother. And that was only because we needed someone to pick up the 11 yr old from school. Baby sitter has said she'll watch the baby later for us.

I completely understand, it's so instinct to pick up our baby and suffer through the pain, I mean that's what u have to do after having them, just have a plan B I guess because u don't want to have to go back under to fix anything. Which. It sounds like u do. And I know how it is not wanting to tell anyone, it's a private thing and u should do it when ur ready. And that's good about the babysitter that will be lots of help! It won't last long but it will feel like forever, we'll get through it though :) they have me on Tylenol with codeine in it and after I take it all I want to do is knock out...I'm sensitive to medicine though..i just keep telling myself it WILL get easier!

Yayyy! So glad to hear AmynNc! ???? have you been able to drink anything yet?

Hey! I've been drinking my G2 since I was in the hospital. I've actually done really well with it. That's all I've drunk besides a little bit of Water. I've only ate Jello and Popsicles. How are you doing?

Glad to hear you are doing well @@AmynNC! I tried to drink some Isopure to get Protein in, but it's too sweet now, kinda rubs my tummy the wrong way. I'm currently walking around my apartment, my girls have wore me out today but luckily my grandma could help for a bit...I have yet to venture to Jello, Maybe I'll have that instead of broth...I'm so scAred to do anything but liquids, I do not want to end up in that OR again...but I'm sure it's just me.. Water seems to be going down easier, it's better at room temp for me. What all have yall tried that has worked?

Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Smooth sailing for me. Just not add much energy as I'd like to have. Switched Protein Powder today and it's giving me major gas. Other than that it's been great!

Hope everyone is doing good! It's been pretty good the past 2 days. Getting all my Protein in and close on the Water. I'm getting hungry though. It seems like in losing about 1 lb per day right now. How's everyone else?

Doing good here, I'm losing about a pound a day too! 18.1lbs down since surgery. I dropped some pounds right after surgery and then had one day where I lost 2lbs in a day, but the 1lb loss has been pretty steady so far. I am really sucking at getting my protein in, but liquids are good. I think I'll have an easier time once I can use food to meet goals instead of these protein waters. I am so over this liquid diet lol...but it has been a great reset for cravings! I look at other VSGers on Instagram to get ideas for low carb meals and I just want to lick my phone screen lol ugh well get there!

sleeved the 19th around 10:30am. The first day wasn't bad but as general anesthesia wore off, the IV pain meds were NOT my friend. SO nauseous. powered through it (after puking some yellow bile) and got up and walked laps probably 4x that afternoon/evening. Dry mouth was horrendous... even with the swabs.

thankfully I went for leak test around 8:30am so I was allowed to sip Water starting around 9:30am. finally around the 2pm shift change, nurse figured out it was IV pain meds causing the super nausea (since I kept begging for more anti-nausea and acid reducer, thinking that was the problem). switched to liquid hydrocodone and problem solved (although it did conk me out).

Discharged 2nd day around 6pm, hubby stopped and got Rx filled while I walked around. got a bag of sonic ice and unsweet peach tea and headed home.

haven't really taken pain meds since day #4 (even then, was to sleep) so feeling really blessed of easy recovery. also very lucky (TMI) to have 1st BM on Sunday evening. BUT then tonight, have had watery diarrhea 2x :(

anyone else suffering with this? Is Imodium safe to take? all I have is pill form but I could chew it up. I know I'll definitely be adding a bit of sugar-free Fiber to Water tonight and all liquids tomorrow but also dont want to be running (literally) to toilet all night .

Also very worried b/c supposed to start back at work in a couple days.... definitely don't want this problem at work!

(I have another 8 days of full liquids before purees..... sigh)

reassurance/advice/suggestions appreciated! :) hope everyone else's recovery is moving along smoothly....

So glad ur doing so well! I'm experiencing the same with diarrhea although not as severe as it sounds for you, bless ur heart! I think it's because we are on liquids, so liquid in liquid out for now! Lol When I was researching about it "Imodium" came up quite a bit with other posters on different sites, but I've never heard of it before or what it does. Maybe that could work?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
