If you are starting this journey next week (or thereabouts), like me, I would love to keep in touch as we go through this! Never thought I would be "looking forward" to a surgery...but this will be worth it! I just turned 40, have two kiddos, blessedly, a great and supportive husband and family, and a heckuva lotta weight to lose--at 313 pounds and 5'7"--but I am ready to use this tool to turn my disastrous relationship with food around for good. Anyone else planning to get a trainer? My plan is to swap food obsession for a healthier exercise one. I hope I can still get those ol' muscles to remember what they are for....

Best wishes to everyone out there!!

Is your surgery 3/9 or you begin the process on 3/9? My surgery is 3/16.

Hi, BetterMeSoon and Ellenisbeingsleeved--my surgery is on Monday, 3/9. Off to drink a delicious Protein Shake and Water water water...????I had lunch (ok, I had water and Decaf tea) with my 4-years-past-GB friend yesterday (she's getting ready for another mini Ironman!!) as a most blessedly welcome pep talk and information dump going into the procedure, and she reiterated to me what she and others have said a million times--it's the best thing you'll ever do and you'll wish you'd have done it sooner!! I hope you have a beautiful weekend!

best wishes all, it will for sure be one of plosive decisions you'd ever make in your life. I am post 14 mths and I lost a total of 117 lbs, from 262 to now 145 lbs, and I'm still adjusting to my new body. Sometimes it's kind of strange to wrap my brain around the fact that I'm thinner but I heard it could take some people to get "use" to their new thinner body, it's like sometimes it's hard to believe or see that I'm not overweight anymore lol. But all my friends call me skinny, which is hard for me to comprehend, especially if you were overweight most if your adult life. Good luck to all of you that will have there procedure this month and a speedy recovery to all of you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
