Pre-op depression - normal?

Recommended Posts

Is this normal? My surgery is Monday. The last week I am sad and crying over everything. I'm going through a divorce too so that doesn't help. The ONLY 2 people that know are my ex-husband and boyfriend of 2 years. I'm now regretting telling them. I don't want anyone to go with me to the hospital. I want to just go and be alone.

I'm hoping I am just having pre-op jitters or something. Anyone else experience this?

I would think it can happen. We go through such an emotional roller-coaster to get to our surgery.Im having a lot of anixety right now and not sleeping. The more you add to your plate the more of a chance you can have emotional issues. I think a lot of the stress will be lifted after you have your surgery.

My wife said I was depressed post op, I have to believe her. Pre-op I was all in and was happy I did it. Post op is a new world, be prepared for the change.

You are going through so much right now! Take the space you need but really try to establish trust with the people you've shared with. You will need their support so maybe the first step is talking to them now about how you feel. It's totally normal up be sad or scared, this is a big deal. But that is exactly why you need to have these people on your side!

I'm going through the same thing. I get moody and weepy. I'm in a constant state of PMS. For me, I feel like this is my last resort, so it feels like there's a lot riding on it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
