December sleeves, how are you doing?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 12/26, down 46 pounds. I was hospitalized for four days about a month ago for dehydration. Since then I haven't had zero issues getting in all my fluids. Suddenly on Saturday I started vomiting non stop. Sunday I was still vomiting but not as much and today I have only thrown up three times. I called my surgeon bc I have been doing really well with my Fluid intake (aside from this weekend now with the constant vomiting). He said "it's not from the surgery. You probably have a bug." Well that really pissed me off because I have zero fever or aches and pains. I'm wondering if it is my anxiety acting up. I have had it since I was little but ever since the surgery it bothers my stomach a lot more. I've only gotten about 10 ounces in today. Everytime I sip I want to puke. Any input would be nice

I was sleeved 12/29 and started at 209 and now at 175. I just don't think 34 lbs. is quite enough for this length of time. I don't have a problem with keeping anything down. I do have a problem with knowing when I'm full. I usually hurt when I stop eating. What meals is everyone eating? I've been drinking Water and Protein Shakes and sometimes deli meat.< /p>

@@slimisin 34 lbs sounds pretty good to me. Look at it this way, 58÷34= approx 1.7 lbs a day! That's awesome!! Be proud of what you've accomplished so far! You're doing great!

Be proud of any weight loss you've had because my guess is, if you hadn't had the surgery you'd have gained a few lbs since December. Be proud of what you've done and accomplished! I'm 32 pounds down but only started at 232. My doctor and I spent time talking about a few friends of mine that had the surgery that were both close to double my weight. My doctor explained to me that most likely I wouldn't drop 100 pounds within a year, like they did because my body can't afford to lose 100 pounds. He also explained to me that this is my journey and everyone is different. I look at it this way, a loss is a loss. I weigh myself once every 2 weeks because mentally I know I'm doing everything right. I just hope I get on that scale and see a loss. I don't care if it's 1, 3 or 5 pounds as long as I'm less than the last time I got on that scale I'm happy! Don't pressure yourself so much and just be happy for what you've accomplished because you are a winner!

Thank you for all the encouragement I guess I really needed that peptalk. I just get so much flack from everybody asking me how much weight I have lost and I really I'm just paying too much attention to that darn scale thanks for being so much so supportive

My surgery was 12/11. I avoid the scale because it messes with my mindset so I only plan to weigh myself maybe once a month. I'm also trying to focus on the non-scale victories more than the scale. Bottom line, the number doesn't really matter because I know that I am doing what I can. And that is what I'm trying to maintain focus on. Without this surgery I would not be losing any weight and likely would continue to slowly gain more over the years (like my mother). So, in a way, even if I didn't lose I would be better off for just not gaining.

That being said, I was down 58 pounds at the 2 month mark, so, I am very happy about that. More importantly I've had a lot to add to my NSV list including fitting into my coats (just in time for the cold) and lower BP!

I've also had complications, but, my weight was giving me complications too. Life will be full of them. I just decided I wanted to choose from the set with the smaller stomach.

I am down 55 pounds since surgery. I still struggle with Protein a little. I'm still on soft foods and any kind of meat, even in gravy doesn't feel great in my stomach. I'm

Addicted to laughing cow cheese lol.

Surgery was 12/18, down 41 pounds so far. I think that is just fine with me. I figure the slow but steady means that my skin isn't going to sag and bag as badly as if I was dropping weight rapidly (so for all you slower losers, that's a perk!)

I am still struggling with chicken and things like brussel sprouts as that all just comes right back up. Rice and Pasta are not an issue, however, in small quantities.

I'm lucky if my calories get up over 1,000 but I'm eating mostly high protein/fats with lower carbs. Trying to get more carbs in, and adding in the rice and Beans is helping get my calories up too, so my NUT should be happy.

I eat a whole lot of cheese - cream cheese, hunks of cheddar, colby jack. Yum! My go to snack is about 16 almonds and a Frigo cheesestick. I am in Texas so I drink HEB's mootopia milk (high Protein, low sugar processed milk that tastes A-MAZ-ING and has about 12 grams of Protein per cup), and eat lots of stews/pastas/ground beef dishes. Lots of bean dishes. I have a slow cooker going right now with kidney Beans, brown rice, tomatoes, onions and sliced sausage for dinner tonight. Lots of fish (have a great baked recipe with lemon, mayo and spices that is EASY), refried beans (I cook a small amount on a plate with some shredded cheddar, then top with pico de gullo and sour cream, and eat with some chips for a "bean nachos" meal).

I keep a pack of Protein Bars in my desk at work for emergencies, but mostly I pack my lunch and take a few cheese sticks for snacking. I also eat them with fruit (cheese stick and apple or kiwi fruit is nice).

I also realized that protein powders like unjury make me throw up like crazy. I can't even stand the smell - instant nausea.

I can't eat anything with high sugar. Tried a few bites of ice cream, and had a bad reaction (think it was dumping syndrome) as I ended up in the bathroom shaking on the floor for about an hour - the throwing up and diarrhea was awful - so will not be eating anything sugary for a very, very long time. Fortunately, I have no real craving for it right now either. ;)

My energy levels are MUCH better now, and I'm now fitting into jeans I haven't worn in two years. And they aren't tight. :D

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
