I'm just starting the process, but I'm self-pay so I don't have to deal with the insurance requirements. My surgeon requires 3 months of nutrition meetings so I'm thinking that my date will be in June. I meet with the surgeon on March 2nd to go over the plan, so hopefully I'll have a better idea then!

My name is Lindsay, by the way. I live in CT, which unfortunately is not one of the states that requires insurers to cover bariatric surgery, so my family will be helping me self-pay. I'll be 27 in a couple weeks and I live alone with my 3 cats and 1 dog. I work as a market researcher, so not a very active job, so I'm hoping that I don't have to take very much time off. I've told my boss and she's supportive, but I still feel kind of weird having to leave early for appointments and stuff. How are you guys handling that?

I just schedule my appts for as late in the afternoon as possible, is that an option? Or first thing in the morning? That way I have most of the day uninterrupted. Sometimes I skip lunch those days as well.

I haven't told work and don't plan to do so. I have a hiatel hernia that will be repaired at the same time, so that's all I am telling them. That's fantastic that your boss is being supportive

@@Seahawkgirl great idea for the intros :) Glad to hear you were able to download on a Nook. I am going to give it a shot.

Glad to meet everyone! I am a 45 year old mother of two daughters 15 and 18 years old. I have been married for 22 years and we live in Opelika, AL. I was born and raised in Georgia but we relocated to AL 7 years ago.

@@mclorrie I am going to download the book today and get started. It is rainy here so perfect timing. :)

Update - I had my sleep study this week and I do have sleep apnea. I have to go back for a second night to get my machine and they will adjust my settings as I sleep.

Question: How did you get your cardiac clearance letter? Did your primary refer you?

I told my boss he actually called me after hours to tell me he was proud and all that but I warned him there's a lot involved and as an office manager it's a huge blow when I'm not there. I've tried to make it as late as possible but sometimes you can't help it. It's something they have to deal with my health comes first. So I made all my appts gave him a list for all the appts so I don't have to remind. Even if my boss made a big deal it's like my life or a few hours of work but he knows it

My PCP referred me to my cardiologist. I had a chest xray & an echocardiogram before I got clearance.

Hi, everyone! I am 55, married 32 years and have two children. I am aiming for June so that I can be out of the classroom while I recover. The other reason for a June surgery date is that I'm planning on keeping this private. During the school year, FMLA time is a possibility, but all the school board minutes are published in our local paper which means names of teachers who are on medical leave get printed. I had surgery a few years back during the school year and had to answer well-meaning questions to people around town about whether or not I was okay. Let's just say I won't repeat that experience, thank you very much.

In other news, I went shopping today for a new pair of jeans and said to myself, "Hopefully this is the last time I have to buy clothing this big."

Ooopppss did someone say shopping... I'm a shopping addict myself but I started buying fashion for the smaller version of me which will emerge after June. I look forward to buying off the rack rather than those special stores that are specifically assigned for people of size.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
