Pittsburgh Shrinking Woman--My Journey Begins!

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm new here to the forum and wanted to jump in and introduce myself! Im a 52 year old fluffy gal from Just south of Pittsburgh. My surgery was Feb. 5, 2015--lap RNY. This past week has certainly been a learning curve for me. I'm not sure exactly what I expected ( which, incidentally, I think would be a great thing for those awaiting surgery--to actually WRITE what they expect week 1), but it wasn't this! The surgery itself wasn't awful. I think the worst pain is from a hernia my surgeon fixed while he was in there. The part that I wasn't anticipating was AFTER the surgery. See, my drs. office has been amazing. The girls in the office have cheered me through the six months (10 months in my case, but that's another story) prep period and been right behind me. In the hospital, however, when I woke I felt like I'd been thrown to the wolves. Suddenly, full trays of food appeared at my beside (am I supposed to EAT that or photograph it for future reference?); the compression apparatus on my legs was at once vaguely titillating and cutting off my circulation; my IV kept setting off an alarm that would just miraculously stop (am I dying? Have they just given up on me?); my foley was....well, doing what a foley does; I knew I needed to walk, but the call button for the nurse was about three inches from my stretched fingertips (while the Salisbury steak was inches from my nose). I was...alone. I guess at that point I wanted coddled a bit (not that I'm spoiled or anything), but a "poor dear, what can I do?" would have been more than enough. At any rate, that is just the start of my already too long introduction. This week has included numerous calls to the dr; a high-drama trip to the local ER; and more meds than Carter had liver pills (what? I'm old!). So...if I haven't lost you yet, I hope to become a part of this community--even if you only let me sit outside with my ear to the door. Although--it's like -10 here today!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
