Gastric Sleeve after Hysterectomy

Recommended Posts

I am reaching out to all you ladies who decided to have the sleeve after having a hysterectomy. How has it affected you personally? What changes have you noticed other than the weight loss? How do you feel now versus prior to the sleeve?

Ok, this interests me too. I had a hysterectomy about 20 years go. So would love to hear some feedback.

I had a hysterectomy about 5 months ago and had my gastric sleeve 4 weeks ago I can tell you that it was more emotional than anything because it kind of threw my hormones off balance but other than that everything went fine

I had a total hysterectomy 4 years prior to sleeve. I was 49. Did not go on hormones. No issues except I did gain weight. Hence the WLS. I had sharp pains during post op which may have been adhesions from hysterectomy and c sections. But not a big deal.

I had a radical hysterectomy 10 years ago. I was already overweight but the hormonal changes seem to speed up my weight gain. I gained nearly 100 lbs since my hysterectomy. I wasn't put on hormone replacement therapy since I had uterine cancer.

As far as effecting my sleeve, I don't think it has. I didn't go through any emotional changes post sleeve. In comparison I'd say the hysterectomy surgery was a more difficult recovery.

Great info ladies! I had a hysterectomy in 2011 and within a year my energy level bottomed and the weight started coming and coming and coming! I've always enjoyed working out but with no energy or results to see, I've lost all motivation. I'm really hopeful that the sleeve will be the tool that helps me get back on track.

I did have to go on estrogen when I had my total hyster, so I know I'll have to stop it prior to and for a while after bariatric surgery. I've never had the emotional thing, or the hot flash thing, but I did gain the weight right after the hyster 20 years ago, and haven't been able to get it off to stay. So, I'm assuming I will go through menopause at the same time I am sleeved. That is a scary thought. Maybe I should stay somewhere else so my hubs doesn't throw me out! :P

I started working out 3 years prior to my sleeve. It wasn't that I liked working out, it's just that I disliked the idea of knee replacement surgery even more. The one thing I found out was the more I went the more I liked it. Especially once I go to the point where it wasn't all post work out soreness. My point is don't wait for motivation to strike. It may never come. I truly think my regular work outs are part of what made my surgery so easy.

I had a hysterectomy about 7 years ago, and I really haven't noticed anything different after my sleeve surgery. They even gave me my hormone replacement pills in the hospital after my sleeve. Maybe my weight loss is a little slower because of it? That could be many factors, though..

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
