Starbucks just kills my calorie count. Even the skinny stuff. Today I put vanilla extract in a spray bottle and spritz it into my travel mug before brewing my morning Decaf in the Keurig. I add cream. Saves money too.

I'm a tea freak so I get a medium iced tea, black with no sugar. The "skinny" stuff doesn't work for me -- artificial sweeteners are my own no-no. Still, it is expensive and sometimes the trendiness bugs me, and the time it takes to get it. We live in the country so don't stumble on Starbucks all the time -- if we're traveling it's a great place to stop and use the ladies' room!

I would say stay away from any beverage that has a lot of calories, sugar etc. My rule of thumb has always been to never drink my calories.

@@Bandista I'm a tea freak too!:-) I love their shaken SF green tea with splenda. 0 cal. I know..........I need to stop the fake stuff but I just can't...LOL I have one about once a month.

I agree with what everyone else is saying as far as not (or limiting) drinking your calories, but I will be totally honest and tell you, I love my Starbucks. I love a frappiccino and I love their holiday lattes.

Having said that, I am a coffee drinker. I like cream and sugar in my coffee (occasionally I will do the flavored ones). My coffee has been one of the things I have held onto, something that is mine. I recommend reading this post, though. I loved the perspective on how we are each different, for right or wrong:

http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/330351-im-not-right-youre-not-wrong-we-are-different/

but, now I am going to contradict everything else I just said :-) Sugar is my weakness. My progress since getting banded has felt very slow to me. I just had my 3rd fill and I am hoping that this puts me a lot closer to my green zone. But I know my band is just a tool and that for it to be its most effective, then I have to make changes in my life. Starting in Feb I am going to challenge myself to cut out sugar, not even sweetners. We'll see how it goes! Looks like I'll be joining you tea drinkers. I don't mind black tea. :-)

I love, LOVE my coffee! I mostly make it my own adding cream and stevia, but I do treat myself to starbucks once or twice a month. It's very easy to drink away your calories, so if it's the sugary coffee drinks you go for...drink them with caution ;)

No starbucks! that is what is says on my post op instructions. You can have anything you want to eat or drink with the lap band. If you want to see results, you need to let go of some of the goodies that are unhealthy. I know it's hard. But I just can't see wasting so many calories on a drink. Unless it's vodka, lol.

I will be a dissenting opinion. I go to starbucks regularly. I usually get a tall dry NF cappucino. Sometimes I add a pump of SF Syrup. The only calories in it are from the nonfat milk. 50 calories/5 G protein/8 g carbs. Slightly more if you don't want It dry--70 calories/6G protein/9G carbs. Occasionally I will get a skinny hazelnut latte--120 calories/12G protein/19G carbs. Fits into my plan very nicely and I've been doing it a few times a week since about three months out.

I've lost 135lbs and am below goal.

Hey I worked as a coffee master or as I called it black apron goddess for a long time. You have options! If you need to cut out all coffee try skinny steamers. This is steamed non fat milk. Or get soy If you can't do milk the sugar free options are great. The cinnamon dolce soy steamer are great. I can only do kids sized drinks. I adore ordering a black ice tea no Water added (to make it stronger) with a little soy milk and S.F vanilla. Heck you can so a Carmel Apple cider. Without the Carmel drizzle and no whip cream and ask for sf Syrup. Any order questions feel free to ask. When I worked with them a lot of the management had RNY

My doc said to avoid a lot of coffee as it can tear up your stomach. He said no more than one a day. I love coffee but only with lots of cream and sugar so I stay away from it. But I will admit that I do stop for a Starbucks after I have a full. Seems to really hit the spot on those days. I try to lighten it up any way I can though

I will Never give up Starbucks...No way. At my local Starbucks the barrister comes up all kinds of different drinks for me

depending on the season and what I like that is sugar free, Fat Free :-)

All Winter I drink a Tall Skinny vanilla Latte (which is a Fat Free Milk, sugar free Vanilla latte) I used to be able to drink a Grande....but since starting with the lapband I can only drink a Tall now, as it fills me up.

It has not affected my calorie count as there is only 90 calories per Grande half that with a Tall. I compensate in other areas for those calories :-)

I think Starbucks is good. The frappucino, Lattes etc. are a good treat now and again. I think they are terribly expensive for what you get but if people are willing to pay that much its their business. I told my surgeon that the deal breaker for me is to tell me No coffee.. I love my morning with half and half or cream and truvia. now and again especially in cold weather I like a afternoon coffee. Like others here I find it difficult to waste my calories on fruity drinks or fru fru coffee (my husband's words) he is a no nonsense coffee person. Actually if I have to leave home without coffee for some reason , like bloodwork where you aren't supposed to eat or drink beforehand, I drive thru McDonald's afterwards, they have some of the best coffee out there. you can get sugar free Syrup in them if you want. It's interesting to see how different we are in our taste. I used to love those McDonald's frappucino's too but found out those babies had about 660 calories..

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
