So I'm one week away from surgery on 1/29. The office hadn't contacted me since my last appointment in December - not even to tell me I was approved (I emailed them). So it's one week away and I literally don't even know what time my surgery is (I have been emailing the surgical coordinator with no response).

I call today because I'm concerned about my lack of information and of course the coordinator was gone, but I explained the issue to the woman who answered. "Oh you don't know about your pre-op testing?" My what? No.

I have done all of my insurance requirements and have approval. I have submitted bloodwork and just had my endoscopy. Nothing else was told to me.

What is this pre-op testing that they speak of?

I know for me, my preop is a week before my surgery date. It is an over the phone thing. What mine are requesting is a current EKG, and current blood work. I just got my lab request in the mail today.

Any way you can physically go the the surgeon's office and camp out till they talk to you? that's ridiculous....

Unfortunately, no. My job doesn't have a ton of flexibility. It's going to be problem enough if I need to take even more time off for another appointment (if I could even get one at this point). I've been on my pre-op diet for 8 days, this is not the time to make me (more) cranky!

She finally called me back today after I left a not-so-sweet voicemail again this morning. Apparently she never gave me 2 different packets I needed that had all this information.

I need an EKG, chest x-ray, and blood work, and to meet with the anesthesiologist. I managed to get an appointment next week, squeaking in.

I also need to get my PCP to sign off on medical clearance. This is going to be a stressful week!

Blah! How annoying! I hope I have everything in. I know I need to get another round of bloodwork for my pcp. But my last visit is in two weeks and then everything gets submitted for approval.

My last weigh in is also my "presurgery screening" or whatever. Hopefully no more hoops!!

If I were you i would be so irritated! I hope that you're hanging in there :)

@@BloomingLotus Hang in there - my surgery is next week and as nerve-wracking as that is (and exciting!), the waiting and plowing thru all the insurance and paperwork hassles has been the most stressful (by far!) so far -- sounds like you're getting close, though -- after I had the EKG, chest X-ray and final bloodwork, those were the last things/hoops I had to do before submission to insurance and then I was approved in less than a week, w/surgery scheduled about three weeks after that - hopefully, you will have smooth sailing after these tests --

ps - now my big fear is getting sick or in a car wreck or something before surgery next week and having to postpone it - I'm ready to wear one of the paper masks grocery shopping tomorrow to keep the germs at bay, and I DEFINITELY wipe down the grocery cart handles, ATM buttons, etc., -- and then liberally douse my hands with sanitizer -- haha or not so haha

Yeah, I'm spazzing out. I'm an attorney and I appear in different courts and judges on different days and I already have next week scheduled. My flexibility is essentially nil. My bosses don't know about surgery (I'm using vacation time) and I really had zero intention of telling people but if this forces me to I have to and I will not be pleased.

Apparently my doctor requires an appointment for medical clearance, and my own doctor has no appointments before surgery. I have asked for an emergency appointment under the circumstances and I'm checking with the coordinator to see if another doctor from my practice can sign off on it.

I'm legit pissed. My emails go unanswered for 3 weeks and then now when i have 6 million other things to handle at work to prepare for I may have to just pick up and leave early on multiple days.

????

@@della street I have already submitted to insurance and have approval - these are the hospital/surgeon guidelines that I was never given on my last appointment. I'm scheduled for surgery on January 29th so now I'm trying to squeeze all of this in, in the next 3 business days.

I managed to schedule pre-op testing late in the day the 27th - but again need to leave work early.

The major problem is my PCP clearance. They're basically the worst run medical center I have ever encountered (switching after I'm healed for surgery) and getting anything from them is a hassle. It took 2 written, 1 in person, and 4 telephone requests to get my correct weight history sent.

They require an appointment for clearance. She isn't in tomorrow, and they don't have appointments before the 29th, so I'm waiting to see if I can see another doctor or what.

It's a good thing my blood pressure isn't being checked today because I would be through the roof!

How are you doing on the pre-op diet? After day 3, it's been smooth sailing for me. At this point I don't have any hunger or even real urge to eat!

@@BloomingLotus - I thought the "Medical Clearance" was the final pre-op visit with the surgeon. My PCP was booked until the first week of February. I explained that I needed the pre-op medical clearance and the PCP called me and was able to squeeze me in next week.

Instead of requesting an emergency apt, request to be squeezed in and offer to see another doctor in the same practice who could use your PCP's notes to write the clearance. It is what I had to do. Best of luck and keep us posted on your success.

@@beautiful12no thank you. I have a 2 page form/checklist that needs to be filled out, so I'm hoping any doc from my practice will do. Heck, I just saw my doc and she wrote me a recommendation, she really could do this without an appointment but they are probably just covering their behinds. I know my doc isn't available tomorrow, but I might show up without an appointment and wait until they squeeze me in. I've been a walk-in before, I might just waste 5 hours of my Saturday. Well worth it to get it done though.

I know exactly how you feel, I went through True Results and then was told that they cannot do the sleeve, I started this process in July with them. Then they had me do my psy eval and when I met withe the new sugeon he would not except the eval, so I had to do another one. Luckly they are using my weigh ins that I had already done in Sept, Oct, and Nov with True Results and I have to go to counseling before and after my surgery, or they would not do the surgery as well. I was able to get a clearance letter, and as of yesterday the submitted my file and tomorrow I am going to do my blood work and wait now for my PCP clearance and insurance to approval.

BloomingLotus I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you are very successful with the rest of your jouney.

Thanks so much for your support everyone, I feel like I'm losing my mind!

I just started crying hysterically at work - thank god I can shut my office door and hide.

I got a call from my PCP, who won't clear me until she has the results of my pre-op testing, which I can't get done until the 27th, with results on the 28th and surgery set for the 29th.

I begged and pleaded and she will see me on Monday, but now I have to take half a day off from work, when I really can't afford to do, but I will. She will do the physical Monday, and once she has the results, clear me on Wednesday, if all is well.

Apparently she writes up a report.

I'm not sure how all of this will come together on time. I have to hold out hope.

Maybe I'll call the pre-op place and see if they can see me later on Monday if I'm already off work.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
