I think everyone screws up from time to time. My motto is, "let my body be my teacher." My biggest fault is that I sometimes want "one extra bite." I am so grateful that my body will not let me do this without their being a price. I get the worst stomach pains. For the most part, I learn that one extra bite does not work for me any more. Then, sometimes I forget, or am just not paying attention. Then I have to start over again.

I messed up today! Walking through Walgreens and seen sugar free Reese's Peanut Butter cups. So I bought them. I stared at them when I got home and thought only one and its sugar free. Well, sadly they taste just like the real thing! Yummy!!! So every time I walked through the kitchen I took one. It was a bag of 10 minis and I my son had one. I just finished the bag! 9 mini ones in a day. I completely messed up and I promise myself I will never ever buy them again. The extra 360 calories was not worth it. Tomorrow I will also be staying off the scale. ????

We all make these mistakes, were only human. Peanut Butter cups call out to me when I see them. Everything in moderation... Eating the whole bag, not so good but if you can buy them and only eat one or two, that's a huge form of self control. Don't look at it and think I can NEVER have these again. Doing that only makes you want them more and you end up devouring the whole bag. Think of it as a test, only eat one or two and then put them away. If you're worried about going back for more, have your kid or husband hide them. You can do this, stay strong!

chicken is my nemesis. I throw that up more than anything and it doesn't seem to matter how much I chew. Think about it like this...we have been eating the way we did for how many years? To think we won't make a mistake and eat too much too fast isn't realistic. It will take awhile to become accustomed to the change.

You are exactly correct. We are used to eating one way, now we have to teach our tummies and brain to eat the right way. There are things our tummy will like and other things it won't. So far, anything fried makes me ill very quickly and bread does not want to go down, it blocks the entrance to my tummy. There's only one way that gets fixed and that means throwing up, if it won't go down, it needs to come up.

Hi I am post op and 52. Can anyone tell me if I will be able to go to dinner with friends since at my age kids are out of the house that's what enjoy do on weekends. I can handle the tiny portions but am afraid of the dumping syndrome.

Yes you will be able to go out for dinner with friends. It felt good too. We had about an hour and a half dinner. It was 3 courses and I had to pace myself. A few bites of appetizer, same with first course, then I was picking over my second course. I drank Water right when I got there because the 6 of us talked and explored the menus (wine menu too). I knew it would take at least 30 minutes before food made it out.

The courses were spaced out pretty well too. I took one sip of wine for toast before appetizer. Chewed like crazy on everything (which actually made me enjoy the taste more). I didn't drink again until we were leaving and I had another sip.

Great time out for dinner before going to see Wicked at The Fox. Avoid any bread provided. What felt the best was none of my friends questioning me not eating bread or picking over my plate. I offered some of every course to my friends to taste. Plates sharing is a handy tool. ????

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
