I know people loose hair after their surgery but I am 4 months out and the Hair loss has gotten excessive. I worry about brushing it to much because it comes out. I used to only have to clean my hair brush every 2-3 weeks. Now I clean it every time I brush it. And it's coming out in gob amounts in the shower as well. I am taking B-12, a Multivitamin, calcium citrate and biotin... what else could I be taking?? I called and talked to the lady in my doctors office this morning and she said it is normal and it probably won't stop until 12-18 months out.... if you ask me I don't have that much to loose. My sister is getting married and march this year and I don't want my hair to be this thin it's gotten crazy. I actually put brown eye shadow on the hair line so it doesn't look that bad I need help with this.

Not that it's any comfort, but I'm right there with you, it comes out and is absolutely EVERYWHERE, but showers are the worst, comes out in clumps.. I too ate Biotin like it was candy, and it didn't help at all. It's horrible and scary! Good luck.

Are you taking Actigall to prevent Gallstones...I think I have read that product can cause Hair loss.< /p>

I went to WEN Shampoo which is costly but you use a comb while washing you hair and it seems

to have slowed the amount of hair I was loosing even before the surgery...

I am still new at this as I am only 7 days post op. But the hair loss thing is a worry for me. I am taking 7500mg of Biotin (1 pill daily) hoping it will help prevent a large portion of it. They did tell me that 3-4 months down the line, I may see Hair loss because of the shock to the body, yadda yadda yadda.

What I don't understand is 3-4 months later from the surgery shouldn't be such a "shock" anymore.!?!

Then I remember hearing my NUT saying that hair is Protein, to just make sure my Protein intake is up to par. So there are so many directions to this and no one knows for sure how to prevent it.

I hope it doesn't get to bad.

I'm right there with you and I'm 7 months out, the last month it has gotten much worse I wake up and see strands of hair on my bedroom floor. I upped my Biotin to 10,000 and I'm drinking 2 Protein shakes a day to make sure I have more than enough Protein intake. can some of you gurus out there tell us when does this stop???????

Not sure why this happens, or at what stage. I started at three months, some start later. I don't think the Biotin helps at all as I've been on it since day one, anywhere from 5000 mcg to 10,000 mcg per day. If you could see the amount that comes out when I shower you'd wonder how I have even a strand left on my head. It comes out all day in small amounts but it's just horrific when I shower. I don't think there's a way to stop it, it just has to run its course be it six months or a year (hopefully not longer). Glad I wear a baseball cap everyday. Good luck everyone!

Google telogen effluvium. It is directly related to out new diets and our surgery. It can be very individualized. My shedding is finally lessening and I have tons of "baby" hairs now. It was pretty scary some days. Hope this helps

There are several articles online. Sounds like they really cant explain why some people experience hair loss after surgery like this and some don't. What I have read I doubt you will continue losing tons of hair for months on end.....I think there is a window of time when the Hair loss can occur. Most seem to say it starts anywhere from 4 mths to 6mths after surgery and lasts for a few months. I know all advise is different. One thing I was told by my nutritionist is that our bodies store Protein and Vitamins...it builds up in our systems like a reserve.....so when you go without Protein and Vitamins like B12 and Biotin for a few weeks at surgery it will show as a loss of those essentials several weeks later when the reserves run out. Try not to worry too much....the stress cant help the situation either. I have no doubt you will be fine. I'm sure the hair loss is more noticeable to you than to others. I have thinned out a bit and to me I feel bald....to my hair dresser its hardly noticeable. My thinning only lasted about 5 weeks. Hang in there! It will get better!

This is a big fear of mine, but my hair dresser said there are cuts that'll help it look better. Mostly short pixie cuts with lots of layers.

If it gets real bad though, I'll just buy a wig... Seriously, there are some great wigs out there, & it's not forever!!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
