How is everyone doing?

I'm assuming most the people out there loving their sleeve has moved on from the forum, so I thought I would purposefully come back and post an update.

Pain - Non existent..

Excercise - Just got cleared to excercise. Started with a couch 2 5k program yesturday. I loved running before the sleeve. It was hard to hold myself back to running only 60 seconds at a time.

food - I can pretty much eat anything.. But some things just aren't worth it.. Red meat sits hard and heavy in the stomach.. So I try to limit that. I've only had three throwing up experiences since I got sleeved. And none of them were from food. I switched from Prilosec to Pepcid.. And that was a mistake.. Three times though is all it took for me to figure it out. It also allowed me to get off all antacids..

Vitamins and pills - Still take double chewable multi and double Calcium caltrate. B12, BComlex are once a day. Hypertension medicine still once a day, but off the metformin for good now.

As for how much I'm eatting... I usually stick with 4 - 5 ounces of protein.. And then will throw about 4 ounces of what else is there (Potatoes, Veggies, Pasta).. Finish all the Protein then try to make it thru half of the other stuff until I'm full, but not uncomfortable.

Weight loss has been extraordinary.. Had a couple of stalls, but usually the weeks after the stalls the weight just falls off.. I've also noticed the stalls relate more to my sodium and Water intake than anything else.. So if I keep drinking my water(Crystal Light Lemonade) and reduce the amount of pasta/potatoes/etc.. It falls right back off fast..

@@fsujoe, excellent update, thank you!! I am almost three weeks post sleeve and not yet approaching normal, so it's great to hear that you're coming along so well. How many weeks out from surgery has it been?

Congrats on the new life! So glad for you. :-D

Wow everything sounds like it's going great for you.

My surgery was December 17th. I've been back to work for 3 weeks. I haven't had pain since maybe 2 weeks out. Still getting nauseated when I drink water/protein shakes. Hot tea doesn't make me nauseated though so I drink a lot of that. Have finally fully transitioned into soft foods, which is good because I only have one more week until my follow-up with doctor/dietitian/exercise specialist and they're going to want me to begin transitioning to "regular" food at that point.

My Vitamins make me want to throw up every time so I am considering ditching the Vitamins I got from the surgeon (for now) and getting something comparable to the drug store that I can stomach. I can come back to the surgeon's vitamins when my stomach is less temperamental. My vitamins are the only thing that has made me throw up this entire time.

I am still struggling with the no drinking 30 minutes before and after a meal thing. I have ignored it a few times and understand why it's a rule now. I definitely can fit more (like 1 tablespoon more! but still more!) food in my stomach if I disobey that rule. I usually pre-portion out my food though, so it's not been that big of a deal but I will definitely be following the rule from now on regardless.

Total weight loss since surgery as of this Wed (36 days post surgery) was 42 lbs! (Well, 41.8.) Total weight loss since October is 111. (Well, 110.8.) I have not hit any stalls yet but I lost weight very rapidly prior to surgery (69 lbs) so I feel like my body is just at a different place than most patients at this stage. (I am sure mine is coming!) Trying to weigh-in only one day/week and on the 17th of each month to keep my head level!

I dont take Vitamins nor Protein shakes!! Is that wrong!? Am always afraid that vitamins would stop making me loose weight ..and the Protein Shake as well..! Am 4 weeks post op and am 11kg down .am eating regular food since week 3 i know that sounds wrong! But i eat 3-5 bites maximum and i feel full.. I always make sure to chew food and eat slowly ,that makes me able to eat more some times is it wrong?or should i eat fast to feel full faster and stop eating!?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
