Which Dr to choose in Mexico

Over 10000 laproscopic surgeries over 30 years and three alleged unsubstantiated deaths...I will gladly take those odds if that is all you can come up with.

Cost is always part of the decision making process depending on max budget. But I think the point was the difference between $4500 and $6500 one needs to be sure they weight the factors of total safety at every Level and potential complication against the $2000 difference. No, not everyone has another $2000 but is the lower cost equipped to save your life at any given moment on any given part of your body and organ within minutes with state of art equipment 24/7. Also... if the quality at $6500 is the same or better then those charging $15000 - $23000 that's pretty much a no brainer, and further a $2000 difference verses a $12000 difference is...well...not in the same ballpark to compare...

I think Rocky1 is stating the medical preparedness concerns that he has which hr is qualified and thank god has a right to share with those who are not a PHD and familiar with hospital systems and level of preparedness. I agree that being completely informed on the ICU dept etc and if it functions 24/7 and how it is equipped for emergencies and if there is a department specialist on staff and equipment available at a moments notice for any given complication and that the surgeon is highly qualified and limits surgeries each day to under 5. Just my opinion and what we expect from this type of forum - different opinions and the ability to help others understand different perspectives. Rocky1 has related knowledge and is willing to share his, and I believe out of concern to help others make the most informed decision we can make.

Oh so your going to go to Dr Corvala who has killed 3 patients but your hoping it's not you because you will be at a better hospital I gotcha

Would you post the links to where these 3 deaths are discussed? In all my research over several months, I only found reference to one possible death years ago so I'd like to read about the other two you've mentioned. Thank you.

And keep in mind he has over 10000 laproscopic surgeries over thirty years. Surgery is an inherently risky endeavor. Over thirty years he probably has more than three deaths of patients. That does not mean he is a bad surgeon. I only found one alleged death on google.

I agree. Dr. Corvala was one of my final two choices for my surgery. That was a difficult, difficult decision to make. From all my research, I believe he is one of the premier bariatric surgeons out there.

Do you know how many times I changed my mind between those final two surgeons? :P

You're going to be in the best of hands! We'll have to compare experiences after your surgery in May.

I still haven't wrapped my mind around it, not after all the long months of planning and research, but I'm going in 3 weeks from tomorrow. :o

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
