I am interested to know if you had to have a drainage tube put in for your surgery.

I have not heard of anyone with a drainage tube for weight loss surgery. But I guess that would depend on your case and how the surgery goes. You definiatly get drainage tubes for plastic surgery I'm told.

I did have a drainage tube for RNY, as did my BFF for her VSG. They only stayed in for the two days that we were in the hospital. I heard that occasionally they will send you home with it if they feel that it is needed however this is very rare. Maybe all surgeons do not use this practice. I did not find the drainage tube to be painful or uncomfortable, or an inconvenience in any way. It was pinned to the inside of my hospital gown to keep it in a proper position and it wasn't much bigger than a tennis ball. The drainage tube was one of the smaller "issues" that comes with weight loss surgery. It takes about 15 seconds for the tube to be removed, and it is not a painful process. It is a strange sensation to say the least however not painful at all. I hope this helps.

That is the least of your problems when recuperating. But yes you get one. Mine barely has any leakage. Today is my second day post op.

I had a drainage tube for the two days I was in the hospital. It is nothing to be afraid of at all. It is removed usually before you leave and it does not hurt at all.

When the nurse took it out, it hurt like hell. Makes me wonder what the heck did she do? My BF had to hold me down from the pain. He said it looked like they stitched it really tight so it wont move. Somehow I dont by it. 6 days post and the one thing that still hurts is the drain hole. I have to hold my side when i walk.

I had one with my bypass. It was removed before I left the hospital, 3rd day post op. It was annoying more than anything. The nurse pinned it to the hospital underpants I was wearing, to keep it from pulling down on the incision it came out of.

Ignore that post! Lol it didn't feel like fire ???? I'm still getting used to posting. But mine was in for like two weeks. I think it depends on your size. I saw a man who had the same procedure with 3. Mine didn't hurt when she took it out. I was too happy to have that wretched thing out of me. You will do just fine. You will safety pin it to your gown and it will be gone before you know it!! Get excited!! This is a pivotal time in your life

Took mine out in the hospital. Removal was just slightly uncomfortable.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
