Were you weighed the day of your surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was weighed just before I went to the OR. After reading some threads I see that not everyone is actually weighed the day of surgery.

Question? Were you weighed before surgery and if not what do you use as your "start weight"?

I was weighed right before. She wrote it down in kilograms and I said to her "Um, do you mind letting me know what that is in pounds so I know how much I weigh?" I guess I could have figured it out, but I wanted to know EXACTLY what I weighed right before surgery! Oh, and that's what I use as my start weight. I had no pre op diet.

@@Babbs I thought I was weird or something! I have my pre-op appt tomorrow(Jan 13) and they haven't breathed a word about any pre-op diet. I was freaking out about it and made sure to eat relatively clean and lean regardless because my surgery is this Friday(Jan 16).

You've given me peace of mind! Thank you!

I actually asked my surgeon if I was going to have a pre op diet because I was dreading it, lol. He said the impact it actually has on your liver is so minimul, he didn't believe it makes much of a difference as far as a surgery goes. I did have to do Clear liquids the day before, and nothing after midnight the day of. That's it :) Good Luck on Friday!

No pre op diet here either. I don't think I was weighed in the day of. I used my weight from the Dr apt I had a few days prior.

They have to weigh you day of surgery so that they can properly calculate how much medicine, anesthesia etc to give you.

Insurance has nothing to do with it.

I was weighed the day of surgery. But I have 2 "start" weights. My heaviest weight (375) before I started the pre-op diet and (352) the weight I was on the day of surgery.

I don't consider 352 my real start weight because it was lost during the pre-op diet.

And I know from my history that I would not have kept that weight off long term - If I could, I would not have needed surgery.

Yes, I was weighed the day of surgery and 6 bajillion tests after surgery. It really was a wonderful experience with so many tests to ensure I was recovering well. It felt very safe.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
