I think it's completely normal. I haven't scheduled my surgery yet but I'm estimating end of February. I'm nervous as crap. Not really about surgery persay as I've had 3 c-sections and handled those well. I keep thinking about the 10 day pre diet and the weeks after but i know this has to be done and I will be so happy once I see weight start dropping and I start feeling better physically. I don't have anything medically wrong right now and I know this will help prevent alot is it. I'm scared financially as we are self pay but I know we will make it work and it's not different then forking money out for a 5 year car loan. :) you got this!

For me the pre-op diet was hardest and I only had to do 3 days of clear liquid. The second day was hard. I had to get our of the house. Never did so much window shopping in my life. Did a movie theater and a pedicure too. Anything to distract me. After surgery at least you are not hungry but before the lyon is roaring. It's a mind over matter kind of thing.

I know exactly how you feel regarding your baby. I should have had my surgery years ago but I was too afraid because of my kids. What I failed to realize was that I wasn't living either. At 270 lbs trust me, I wasn't living. I would have been a much better mom had I done this earlier. But I guess fear is a debilitating thing and I had to do it my way but I am so glad I had the courage to face the truth and reality that my ability to live a

good life was not looking good for me.

I had the sleeve but let me tell you it was the best thing in the world. I have chronic uterica. They are painful, itchy hives. I was at the point of having an outbreak at least once a week, sometimes more. The only treatments were benedryl. If I was lucky I could take them at home. However it would take me at least 2 days to sleep off the effects of the benedryl. That meant if it was a mild attack, I'd lose 3 days out of the week. I would be took sleepy and drowsy to function well. If it was a bad attack, I had to go to the ER for IV benedryl. That burns as it course through your veins. They also had to observe me for 6 hours before I was allowed to go home. Once home I still needed 2 days to sleep it off.

In addition for whatever reason my throat and tongue would also swell on occasion. That was always an immediate trip to the ER for IV benedryl.

Post-op I have had not one single episode. I was told there was a possibility that my uterica would go into remission. The doctor's aren't sure why though. I am extremely thankful that it has.

As for the surgery itself? Could not have been easier. No pain, no problems with gas, no nausea. I was started on colace in the hospital and had my first BM 2 days after I came home. I am losing weight and feeling better than I have in a very long time. It's worth it. If you've come this far, please have the surgery.

I needed to read this. I am scheduled in a week. I'm scared, anxious, excited, nervous - you name it. I've had cold feet for about a week now. And I've debated everything. I've never been so conflicted. Did all you ladies who have posted here have the surgery?

As I waited for my surgery alone in the hallway outside the OR room, I cried my eyes out. I was very afraid but more about what my life was going to be like. Like saying goodbye, I guess, to my best friend.

It took me a couple of weeks to know whether I did the right thing for myself (and I'd heard the same from others). Having now lost 50 lbs and also being able to cross my legs, etc. etc. I'm more than happy with my decision.

I was saying to my girlfriend that it is such a personal decision to have the surgery or not. I don't think that anyone can make that decision for you. But that was early on when I still wasn't sure whether I made the right choice.

Give it time, it's a process and keep us posted.

Ruth

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
