How do I eat 3 "meals"/day AND drink 80 oz of fluid/day?

Recommended Posts

Hello Gastric Sleeve Pals!

I really need some pointers on how to improve my consumption.

I am in the middle of week 3 post op. I am supposed to be eating three pureed meals per day, 2 dairy and pureed fruit Snacks per day, AND drinking 80 oz of Fluid per day. I am not allowed to drink 10 minutes before eating, 20 minutes during eating, and 1 hour after eating. So HOW ON EARTH am I supposed to get all of this eating done when I still have to drink 80 oz of Fluid per day?!? And the dairy Snacks pose a real problem thanks to my new found lactose intolerance.

The most fluid I've been able to drink in a day is 65 oz. The most food is 2 meals and 1 snack. I get all of my Protein in because I put Protein in my fluids. However, I think my body is going into ketosis because I feel TERRIBLE and my weight has not dropped at all since the end of week 1. Not even after adding 30 minutes of cardio/day. I feel dizzy, extremely tired, mentally and physically uncoordinated. I struggle with simple math in my head (I am a financial analyst - NOT GOOD!).

HELP!!!!

You just have to keep working on it. My guidelines are a little different with not drinking before and after for 30 mins. My routine is 16oz Water when I first wake up, then 11 oz shake, another 16oz bottle before lunch, another 16oz bottle before dinner, usually another 11oz shake a few hours after dinner and another 16oz bottle of water. It's all about timing and having that water with you at all times. That's 86 oz of water (I include my shakes). It takes time. I was probably a good month out before I was able to to that daily.

Your rule does sound complicated. I was instructed to have a 30 min window on each side of eating. Simply put you don't want to eat and drink together. Like @@Elode I start with a glass of Water when I wake up. However my recommendation was 64 ounces of Fluid. Most days I drink a 20 ounce Protein smoothie for Breakfast with anywhere from 30 -38 gms of Protein in it. I then drink between 40 - 48 ounces of Water through out the day. All total I get 60 -68 ounces of Fluid in.

Perhaps review your diet with your nutritionist. You obviously need an adjustment in things if your are dairy intolerant.

Thank you! I am going to have a talk with the nutritionist very soon. I am determined to have success at my weight loss. I am going to ask the nutritionist about the not drinking 30 minutes before and after, rather than the instructions I've been given. It seems to amount to the same amount of time overall, but I think the 30 before and after is an easier way to manage it.

@@billitant You are absolutely right. We could do it if there were 36 hours in a day but there is no way I can manage 80 Oz a day with 3 meals and snack. And there is work as well.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
