I am once again looking for advice from those of you who have done this? I am scheduled for surgery January 20. I am concerned I will not be able to eat enough Protein. How did you manage to get in all of the Protein that you need the first few days? Weeks? etc. Can you give me a sample day? I know that you guys have some pretty good tricks to getting it all in and I would like to use your knowledge!

You probably won't get in as much as you need to right away, but you just have to try

Protein drinks help a lot. Putting Protein powder in things helps too. I think powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury makes some good ones that might be "chicken flavored" that you can put in broth. Eventually, when you are on pureed foods, yogurt and cottage cheese are great resources, as are scrambled eggs. But don't freak out if you can't get in all your Protein right away, just keep trying.

For me, the first three weeks after surgery were a full liquid diet only. I was required to get 64 ounces of Water and 60 grams of Protein every day.

My NUT had a suggestion that worked great! On every even hour of the day I drank 4 ounces of any approved Fluid (water, Powerade, Vitamin Water, etc). This allowed me to get 32 ounces of Fluid through the day. On every odd hour off the day I drank 4 ounces of Protein shake. My program recommended Carnation Instant Breakfast in a bottle or Atkins Protein shakes.

These are 15 grams of Protein in a 8oz bottle. Over the course of the day I drank 60 ounces of Protein and an additional 32 ounces of fluid, giving me 64 ounces for the day. Protein Shake counts as fluid.

I actually did this for 5 weeks because I had a surgical complication, but had no problem getting in fluid and protein. I did start using Premier Protein Ready to Drink shakes in the latter couple weeks. These have 30 grams of Protein.

Once leaving the liquid phase you can blend unflavored Protein Powder into most anything to get extra protein. Also there is Protein Hot chocolate by Proti Diet and chicken Soup flavored protein by U-N-J-U-R-Y that is also very good.

The first couple weeks are difficult but it is very important to get both fluid and protein

There will be days where you do not get in all your Protein. I continue to use and drink Nature's Best Isopure (GNC and online) when I need to get in some quick Protein.

Hi I had my op in Nov and I used to make a banana and mango and yoghurt with Water and ice smoothie for my breekie then I would have a yoghurt drink 2 hours later then 1/2 tin of Soup 2 hours later then 1/2 tin of soup 2 hours later then a yoghurt and then another 1/2 tin of soup and then try to get the Water in aswell. it was quiet hard in the first couple of weeks to get everything in I felt I couldn't go to bed early cause I hadn't had enough lol. Good luck with your surgery hope all goes well x

Thanks Guys! Great ideas. I especially thought the every other hour idea was worth checking out. I am very bad about keeping track of things and that will help me tremendously. I will have to up the amount of Protein every hour though. I don't stay up that late. And I don't think I will be able to stomach anything at 5 in the morning. Did anyone else hear that it's not a good idea to stretch your protein out through out the day?

You won't be able to, most likely. I don't know know why everyone on here is so concerned about it! You won't die without it, okay? It's like, your fat will feed you for a long long time. Your okay. It's okay. You don't have to force feed yourself Protein.

Per my doctor ( one of the best surgeons in the state) The point of this surgery is NOT to eat. Don't worry about not being able to get in your Protein. You will eventually be able to eat more. It's okay to eat very little in the first 6 months to a year. I only eat about 20-40 grams of protein a day and am doing great. My doctor says all is fine!!!

So don't worry about it. You'll eat what you can. It takes time.

I find that if I make sure to get a Protein Shake for Breakfast, that kind of takes some of the pressure off of me for the rest of the day. I also agree with the post that it is hard to get the maximum amount of Protein recommended in the first couple of weeks but it does get easier. Don't fret too much about it.

I also had problems, but I found vitacost Sprinkle-a-Whey, unflavored Protein to sprinkle on food, Soups, etc.. You can only buy it online and it's less than $10.00. Good luck!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
