So I'm new on here and wanted to join just to get some similar support. Friends and family are great but I think I need people with like/life experiences. My surgery was dec. 3 2014. I am a month post op tomorrow. I have my trials and tribulations and wanted to just reach out and see or get advice on what to look forward to. I'm still having issues with Water and Protein intake maybe someone could give me some advice on how they manage to get in 80g of protein and 64 oz of water daily. And just any advice in general. I have tons of questions and very little support. :(

The Protein will take time to work up to 80g. Don't expect to be hitting it until about the two month mark. The primary focus should be the Water. My doctor gave me a shot glass and said to plan on drinking one of those every 8 min. Your life revolves around putting liquid or food into your mouth so much so that you begin to hate food which I love. Food controlled my life in a negative way, now it is controlling it in a great way. This constant need to schedule your day around food does pass as you are able to take in a larger amount of food and you get more acclimated to your schedule. The big key is to do your best and continually be working towards those goal amounts.

If there are any other questions you have or anything I can do to help you out, don't hesitate to let me know. I am here for you. Also check out my blog at the link below my signature for more information and help in motivating yourself through the next year of your amazing life. I am so excited for you. I BELIEVE IN YOU!

Thank you so much I appreciate the advice. I bought a timer just to kinda remind me to drink Water but I never thought about using a smaller cup (shot glass) this just might make it easier I tend to tAke to big of a gulp which hurts sometimes. I will definitely check out your blog. Thanks again for the advice Protein is my next challenge, then food im also having problems with determining how much to eat.

HI DORATHY

I HAD MY BYPASS 12/24. TODAY IS MY 2ND WEEK MARK. I'M SUPPOSE TO GET AT LEAST 60 GRAMS Protein IN & SOME DAYS I COULDN'T QUITE MAKE IT. THIS IS WHAT I DID. I USED BODY FORTRESS whey powder. EVERY MORNING I HAVE 8 OZ FAT FREE MILK WITH 1 SCOOP OF THE whey powder. IT HAS 30 GRAMS IN 1 SCOOP AND THE MILK HAS 7. THEN I TRY TO EAT AS MUCH OF THE ALLOTTED Protein I CAN. IF I DON'T MAKE IT I HAVE ANOTHER shake. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

First congrats on being healthy, I agree with the above statements focus on your Water, walking, and trying to get your Protein in , you won't get in 80 grams of protein in yet but you will work your way up to it and then you will be getting your protein from both Protein Shakes as well as food . Good luck and keep us posted .

It's not easy. I had my surgery the day after you. I really struggle with both food and Water.

It helps if I have a water bottle with me at all times. I find I hate drinking out of glasses.

I drink Decaf coffee as a way to get more liquid in.

Food... Sigh. I pretty much hate eating now. It's a love hate thing. I only get hungry about once a day in the afternoon. That meal is pretty much it. I try and focus on Protein. But some carbs have strayed slipping in. It's honestly tough to come up with things to eat like. I'm so sick of everything. food makes me nauseated and sick about an hour after I eat and it lasts all day. It's so annoying.

Some days are better than others and some food better than others. I definitely dump from carbs, they give me late dumping. Sick to my stomach grump and agitated. So I really wish I didn't need to eat.

It also gives me anxiety to eat because I am afraid I will begin eating too much and not lose weight. I only eat about. 200-500 calories a day. I am honestly afraid to go over that. It just freaks me out to think I may slip back into my old ways. I still don't entirely trust myself, although it is getting a little better every day as I let go of who I used to be and realize that it is in the past. I don't crave sweets anymore thank goodness.

I am taking this time to be rid of things I used to live my life around. The further I get along, it seems like the less I want to do things like drink coffee, eat junk or carbs, or really eat much at all. Food is super low priority.

I do worry about Water and Protein however. I wish I could find a simpler means of getting it in that I could tolerate every day. I get sick of foods so quickly!! I used to be like that before and it's even worse now. I try and look on Pinterest for low carb meal ideas.

Vitamins are also difficult. They taste so gross and I hate taking them. Sigh. But I know I have to so I'm really making an effort. I can't wait until I can swallow pills. My doctor says at three months out I can swallow pills!!! That will be amazing.

Anyhow let's keep in touch. Let me know how your doing.

By the way I'm 5'6. Was 240 now 206.

HEY GUYS HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED WEIGHT GAIN? I WAS SURPRISED AS HECK TO SEE TODAY I STEPPED ON THE scale AND HAD GAIN ALMOST 4 LBS. I DID UP MY CALORIES A BIT. I WAS EATING 500-600 CALORIES AND NOT LOSING MUCH. SOMEONE MENTIONED YOU SHOULD EAT MORE BECAUSE OF THE WHOLE THROWING THE BODY INTO STARVATION MODE. I UPPED MY CALORIES TO ABOUT 800. MY Protein IS AT 60-70 GRAMS. BUT THAT THROW ME THIS MORNING. I ALSO HAVE ALWAYS LOVED Water, SO I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT. I'D REALLY RATHER DRINK Water THAN EAT NOW. I HAVE AN APPT. THURS WITH THE DOCTOR AND ONE WITH THE DIETITIAN THE NEXT WEEK. I'M CERTAINLY GOING TO FIND OUT WHAT THEIR TAKE ON THIS IS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS THE RANGE OF CALORIES I'M SUPPOSE TO BE SHOOTING FOR, BUT JUST WONDERING IF IT HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED ON WHAT I FIND OUT.

OK I WENT TO MY APPOINTMENT ON FRIDAY (YESTERDAY) THIS IS WHAT I FOUND OUT. I AM NOW STARTING THE REGULAR DIET. I AM 1 MONTH OUT FROM BYPASS BUT HAVE NOT HAD ANY ISSUES. THE DOCTOR SAID I SHOULD BE GETTING 800-1000 A DAY. THE SAME AT LEAST 60 GRAMS OF Protein AND 60 OZ Water AT LEAST. HAS ANY ONE TRIED SCRAMBLED EGG WITH 2 TBLS COTTAGE cheese & A LITTLE SHREDDED CHEDDAR; MAYBE A TBLS. IT REALLY SURPRISED ME. IT WAS PRETTY GOOD. HOPE THIS CAN HELP.

So Im very curios as to what everybody is eating now that we are 2 months out? I'm still having trouble or shall I say I'm scared to try anything new. Like is anyone eating fruit yet? Protein Bars? I'm really not able to keep my shakes down anymore but Water is getting easier to drink. I'm excited to hear about your stories.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
