Anxious but still moving forward

Recommended Posts

Hello All:

I'm usually a listener and not a talker but I've been experiencing a lot of anxiety with my upcoming surgery scheduled for 01/12 & thought I would seek encouragement from those that have already been through this. Needless to say I'm scared, anxious, and feeling overwhelmed but I know I have made the right choice that will benefit me in the long run. Along with needing to lose weight, I'm having the surgery to help relieve pain caused by a car accident that also left me disabled. Any advice on how to deal with the anxiety would be greatly appreciated!!

I was SOOOOO scared and anxious prior to my surgery. I was sleeved on 12-23. It was much less scary than I thought it would be....less painful, less stressful. I am so glad I did this! It is totally normal to be apprehensive...but you will be fine. I feel so much better than I did before, even though I am only about 10 days out. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I am so happy...my fears were pretty groundless. :D

As a Christian, I relied on my faith address my fears and anxieties. And sure enough, once again (this was surgery #21), my Good Lord not only sailed me through the whole thing, He made sure there were no complications, AND allowed me to make a whole lot of new friends on this site. Good luck and God Bless you....

Thank u for the words of encouragement. It was God that brought me through my car accident & I am trusting him to bring me through this too. I've never dealt with anxiety before my accident & now I have to constantly remind myself who is in control and at times it gets hard. I hope you continue with a successful recovery!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
