Hi,

If anyone knows of any drs. in the Jersey shore area (NJ) pls let me know. I have been travelling 2hrs to get my fill from the dr. who did the surgery and he is quite expensive when it comes to the fills. His charge is $900 and my insurance won't cover that much. I am in need of a fill but can't afford his fee. HELP!!!!!

Hello,

I , too need a Dr in Dallas/Fort Worth area that will take over my aftercare. I am disappointed with my Dr and staff. He is out of network for me as well. My insurance is Aetna PPO. I am having to pay a $50.00 co-pay for my fills because he is out of network.

I use Dr Richard Carter in Arlington...and I have Atena my first three fills were not covered I had to pay 200.00 bucks out of pocket. Atena now covers my fills my co-pay is 48 bucks I am very happy so call Atena and check to see what they cover. The change took affect in May....

GOOD LUCK

I am due for a Dr visit June 25th but I think I am going to cancel it for another month. My last fill was March 12th and I had a hard time eating for months. Also my ins changed and my surgeon doesn't take my new ins. So he charges 375.00 for the office visit and 250 for the fill! I am not going to pay 375.00 just to get weighed! I have tried switching doctors but no one wants to take on someone else's patient! UUUGGGGG

Wow... I called Dr. Maese and was told that because I had my band done in Mexico that I would have to wait 3 months to visit him, then my first appointment would be 375, 200 for subsequent fills.... grrrrr!!!!

Yikes, I thought I posted this message.... hahahahhaha. Yes, I ran into this same issue, and even though this fill doctor wasnt my first choice, I had checked into this.

Iv got some more good news for you, Dr. Jayaseelan charges lap banders $150 cash price if you got your band in the U.S. but he charges $250 if you have the band put in by a Mexican doctor .... and they told me I was lucky at that. That many other doctors wouldnt see you at all if you have the band put in in Mexico. He is in Medical City, and I believe would be a better choice for me than Dr. Maese, just irratated about the difference in price. I may call Davidson?? at Presbertarian Hospital and see if he also charges extra if you were banded in Mexico.

Let me know if you find anyone good to do your fills at $200 per fill in our area.

Wow, thank you so much! Do you know if the first visit costs more than subsequent visits? I may just drive back to Mexico because I dont want to wait 3 months for my first fill. I have felt healed since the day of surgery.

It would cost you the $250 Dr. Jay charges to drive to Mexico wouldnt it? I can get "free" fills for a year or something with my doctor in Mexico, but turns out I have to pay $100 for the fluor to measure the fill. It didnt mention the extra $100 charge to go back to Mexico in the original quote. lol. As I said to me the costs keep going up up up.

I figure the gas would cost me close to $200 both ways to drive to Mexico, plus you would need a hotel for the night.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
