excess weight loss %

Recommended Posts

So I'll admit it I've been incredibly jealous seeing everyone's numbers. I feel like I'm so far behind. I'm 2 1/2 months out I've loss 33% of my excess weight. Do you guys know your %? I think this will be the true measurement of whether I've been slacking or not

@@10/6/14

knock it off!! :D

you are never, ever allowed to compare yourself with other people

ie how long it takes for you to lose weight over someone else

how much more weight someone else loses compared to you

"they" say losing about 10 lbs a month is good :)

not sure how %of weight loss goes :(

but it sounds like you are doing fine

remember, don't compare your weight to "jane doe" or jack "and the beanstock" LOL

keep up the good work that i know you are doing!!!

I wouldn't compare yourself to anyone else... Everyone's bodies are so very different :)

33% sounds amazing!! Good luck to reach your goal.

Nope, it won't Everyone loses at different rates. Some are slow starters, some lose fast at first then slow down. There are just too many variables; age, metabolism, genetics, etc.... Just work your program. If you put in the work it will happen. There is no race to see who gets to the finish line first. A better way to know if you've been slacking is to be honest with yourself. Are you following your doctor's instructions? Do you get in at least 60gms of Protein and 64ounces of fluids each day? Are you exercising?

I can tell you this....my surgeon expects 30% of excess weight by 3 months so you're ahead of the game!

To @@sukik ... why do you think you're a slow loser if you've lost 30% of your excess weight in two months? Frankly, I'm gobsmacked that anyone would actually think that. Did someone tell you that? If so, they are wrong.

And to the OP @@10/6/14 -- only you can possibly know if you are "slacking" or not. The % of excess weight you can lose by any point in your journey depends on many factors. For instance:

Some people started losing weight pre-op, either on their own or required by their surgeon or insurance. Others didn't.

Some people have longer pre-op (liver reduction) diets than others. Some don't have any required pre-op diet.

Some people are older and lose slower. Some are younger and lose faster.

Men ALWAYS lose faster than the women. Remember how that works? Muscles?

Some people work out like banshees, and others don't or can't.

This whole process is quite nuanced and involves so many factors. The only thing that determines whether you will lose all your excess weight is whether you keep losing weight until you reach your goal--no matter how long that takes.

Very best to us all.

@10/6/14 this I think is spot on.

Only you know if you are working your program to your best ability. Make sure you are taking measurements, pictures and trying on something that was to small every one in awhile. There are so many other ways to see how you are progressing than just the scale.

Truly if you do what you are suppose to be doing the weight will come off!!

@@sukik - You should be specking with your NUT regarding this. They would help you increase your calories to maintenance level.

I am at 4 months post op and I am a little over 40%. Although depending on how much you actually had to lose makes it way different. I needed to lose 120 pounds so 49 pounds 4 months out. But for someone who only needed to lose 80 pounds 40% would be harder to attain. Everyone is different. I lose in cycles. 5-7 pounds 1 week then nothing for 2 weeks. Then I will lose 5-7 more... Then nothing. Although it's frustrating it's just how my body does it. Stop worrying with the numbers. Do your thing, change your life! This is a lifetime change. Do it right :)

I'm 5 months and 1 week post-op (tomorrow will be 23 weeks post-op).

I started at nearly 236 pounds with a goal weight of 150 pounds. That means I had an excess weight of 86 pounds.

Like most folks, I lost weight pre-op (nearly 20 pounds, which was 24% of my excess weight). Since surgery, I've lost another 50 pounds, which is another 59% of my excess weight. That's 84% of my excess weight lost so far.

During all that time, I've done nothing weird. Just followed doc's instructions. I'm now eating 1,000 cals/day most days and at least 80 grams of Protein daily. My weight loss journey has been relatively complication- and drama-free.

Based on my own experience, it's not been any harder for me to lose the same proportion (or more) of my excess weight than patients who had a much higher starting weight.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
