Got a pill stuck

Recommended Posts

Starting last Saturday, I noticed my band was really tight in the morning. Don't know if it's because TOM, or just a new gliche in the band. I got a small alergy pill stuck on Saturday and again onMonday - both had one or two violent struggles to get unstuck. Have any of you had this happen, and did you feel the pain of attack for days afterward? I don't think my band slipped, but it hurts to drink Water (sore esophagus/pouch?) and once my band losens up (afternoon) I can eat - I've been eating Soup or shakes.< /p>

Can you wait until the afternoon to take your pills. I'm tighter in the morning. I wake my band up with warm drinks in the a.m. Before taking my pills

Some pills are specifically designed to dissolve in the acidic environment of the stomach, so if one dissolves above the band, at the base of the oesophagus, it can be quite corrosive. A good friend of mine was assured by a pharmacist no damage would be done if her anti-bio capsule dissolved above the band, he was wrong! She ended up in ER unable to swallow even saliva. So your tablets may have irritated the tissue.

I, like many other banded people, take enormous care. I only take very small pills, anything else I get in soluble or liquid form or, unless time-release, chopped into tiny pieces. When I take meds, I take them with large amounts of iquid and take one at a time so that if one did come back up, it would only be the last one and I would know which it was! I always take morning tablets after my morning latte.

This may sound like paranoia on my part. But although I am in no way tight - I can eat all foods without any problem - I have several times had pills which did not go down and I feel that it is not worth the risk. I have had my band for almost 9 years and don't do anything to put it at risk!

This has happened to me!! I now crush my pills and put in a small cup of oj. If I ever need anything like an antibiotic etc I ask for liquid form. It's just easier and why get stuck when you don't have to.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
