When did your hair loss start?

Recommended Posts

I'm a little over 6 weeks post op, and I haven't started losing any hair yet. I've been dreading it! I was just wondering at what point you starting losing hair after surgery?

In my experience, it starts at about 3 months out... Good luck - are you taking any supplements? Biotin is a good one to take, the strength in my nails has increased tenfold and I firmly believe that this is the reason that although I've lost some hair, it isn't so bad as it could have been My hairdresser said that there was quite a lot of new growth happening.

I am taking 10,000 mcg Biotin every night before bed, but I've been averaging only about 60g protien per day.

I didn't lose hair. It's NOT a given for everyone! I honestly can't tell you why either... Like many others who did lose hair, I got my 80g of Protein per day, took Biotin and the rest of my supplements and ate 1000-1200 calories per day with exercise all during my loss phase. Sometimes I think it's a crap shoot on the Hair loss.< /p>

I noticed more shedding about a month after surgery. But I would say month 3 - 4 the absolute worst (big handfuls at a time). I *think* (touch wood) it's slowing down.

I got all my Protein and took Biotin and collagen... And started losing hair 6 months out. That's on the late side, but don't count yourself out of the woods too soon! I am a year out and it's slowed considerably but not completely stopped.

I'm almost 4 months out and have not experienced Hair loss as of yet ( knock on wood!) I still have a 30 gram Protein Shake every morning for Breakfast, so maybe that helped? It's hard to say. I just think it really is the luck of the draw I guess.

I'm voting for luck of the draw... I still have Protein Shakes a year out and lost my hair starting at 6 months! I hope you avoid that! Good luck!

My hair started falling out at about 3 months, and it stopped at 5 1/2 months. I started on Biotin before my surgery and still take it every day, but it didn't help, lol. I'm always high Protein and that didn't help either.

8 weeks it started to come out and has been falling out for 4 weeks. My fingernails are very soft so I have begun eating Jello. Some days Hair loss is worse than others. No bald spots, but one side of my head seems thinner than the other.

Mine started at 3 months and went until about 6 1/2 months. I had high Protein, Biotin and all my Vitamins and it fell out in clumps at one point. It's not so bad - it stopped and is not noticeable to anyone besides me and my hairdresser. :)

OK, so I guess I'll just continue with the Biotin and hope it doesn't hit me too hard. It seems that 3 months is a common marker for when to expect it. Wish me luck! Thanks for all the replies!

I did not start losing hair until 5 months. It was a shock because I thought I was out of the woods

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
