First post op battle of the cold season help?

Recommended Posts

I am one of the proactive people doing anything I can to prevent getting a common cold sore throat with sniffles and such. Well I'm 7 wks post op today and my immunity is down big time. It stated last night and today I've had such a difficult time getting in any fluids :( . I was up at 5 and I'm going to bed now having only consumed one Protein Drink this am maybe 1/4 to 1/2 cup of Soup and maybe 2oz g2. I have already had a difficult time getting in fluids now with a sore throat it's virtually impossible. My taste is way off. Everything seems salty even Apple juice and I can't stomach plain Water. Any suggestions? I'll be calling the dr in the am!

How about warm tea? Celestial seasonings makes a Sleepytime complete care that has echinacea, Vitamin C and zinc in it. There are also a number of herbal teas that claim to boost your immune system. And the warmth may be easier to swallow. I had VSG, but it was my friend who had bypass 8 years ago that turned me on to herbal teas.

Shoot shoot shoot. After I read your post I thought oh man I'm glad that is not me!! Karma is a bitch I guess cause now- I'm sick!!!!!! Waaaaaaa so we can tough it out together grin!!!!! I HATE being sick darn it. I had some Tomato Soup with a little Tabasco that was nice. I'm dying for a bath but I'm not supposed to yet, although I may cave on that tomorrow if this gets really bad!!!

Cry cry. I hope your feeling better!!

I'm sorry that your'e sick. That sucks. But get your liquids in or dehydration will set in. Take care under some fluffy warm blanket! Myself, I tried zinc one year and it took away my sense of taste for about 2 weeks. So be careful of having too much of that. Well wishes on the way!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
