I am one year out from facial plastic surgery on December 12, 2013. Today I had a tuck up and chemical peel and scar revision. I am super happy that Dr. Winslow had enough of my SMAS to augment my lips. Hopefully this means no more lips injections for filler because the really hurt! Although the lips are hurting now that all the drugs are wearing off.

My lips are a bit duck like now but Dr. Winslow says that will be gone in a week or so. I just got off the phone with her. It is so very nice that she calls after surgery to see how you are doing and if you have any questions.

I do not have any pain but my lips. And I cannot eat or drink anything without some of it coming out of my mouth. It is pretty funny. I have to wear a bib.

I cannot stay awake owing to the pain killers. I have such a lower resistance to them. As well, I have little memory of surgery today. I fell asleep on the couch curled up in a blanket awaiting them to bring me back to surgery. I recall walking into the OR and Take Me to Church was playing. I recall the nurse having a hard time to find my vein. The next thing I recall is the nurse dressing me and Take Me to Churxh was playing again. The nurse told me it played once during the surgery, too. I wonder if the universe is sending me message? I say this because I have been on a spiritual Quest to find myself.

Then I remember being wheeled to the car and my husband driving me home. I went to bed immediately and woke up about 6:30pm. Now I am about to doze off again. I see Dr. Winslow at 8am tomorrow.

Wishing you a fast and uneventful recovery. When they go down I bet your lips will be fab.

Question: what is a tuck up?

@@My Bariatric Life Hope you have a good recovery! It always amazes me that people have lip injections! I always hated my big kisser growing up until the girl at the Mac counter told me to just hush " people pay to have lips like that" of course I was younger was like yeah right! Well I guess they do! Congratulations, have fun picking out lipstick.

@@woo woo Dr. Winslow is tightening me because I had some looseness. It is a revision. I have the incisions inside my ears and behind them. I don't know if I have a neck incision. We really destroy the quality of our skin with massive weight gain and loss. Plus I lost some weight after my face lift. All of it contributed to some loosening. It is wonderful of her to revise me for free. I know many doctors would say it is your own fault for losing weight, or would say that I look fine the way that I am.

@@Elode thank you. I always played up my eyes before plastic surgery. Now I play up my lips. I was doing fillers before and the results were great but hurt like heck! By the looks of my lips now, once the swelling goes down I think I shall be left with lips that are kissable and don't need any filler.

Wow, I am very swollen today! Even my tummy feels swollen. I see Dr. Winslow in a couple of hours and will get this ace bandage off and wear a face bra instead. I cannot wait to get the ace bandage off. I feel like I am being choked. Any I am pretty sure I stopped breathing last night three times. I don't think that has to do with the bandage but rather with the pain medication. I was so drugged up that it is hard to tell if that is what was going on or not. But I recall waking up three different times sucking in a whole bunch of air and panting, as if I had apnea. The pain from the lips was so bad that I took more pain meds than I was supposed to take. Kids, don't try this at home!

With your pretty face, those eyes just need a little help (via makeup) to POP and then I see some lovely RED RED lipstick in your future... It makes you feel so good when you have on just the right shade of lipstick...

I think I get that from my Mom :) ...never left the house without lipstick on ...
Enjoy...

(btw, so awesome that your doctor did a touch up for no extra charge!)

@@BigGirlPanties thank you! Dr. Winslow is amazing. It is so funny to now play up a different part of my face since my facial plastics. The old way that I did my makeup doesn't look good anymore.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
