I've lost 45 pounds but.......

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone's I'm about 10 weeks post open and I've lost a total of 45 pounds but how come I still see the fat girl in the mirror....I go to the gym every other day and spend an hour doing cardio and weight training on the areas I need worked on...

Yes I'm losing inches (I'm a sized 16 from 18) but still look in the mirror and I see no change...what do you do to keep being motivated... I'm starting to slack on my eating habits with grazing on pistachios and walnuts. I need some help

It takes awhile for your body image to catch up to your actual physical image. For some reason, other people can see changes before you can.

At thirty pounds, my primary doctor noticed changes. It was forty before I could see changes. My body is shapeshifting and I do not recognize it anymore.

Have you been taking pictures of your progress? I found when I started feeling the same way you did, I put all my progress pictures together in chronological order and saw just how much difference 45lbs made! It will make you feel a lot better, I promise!

I know what you mean. I can see the loss in my face but not really anywhere else. My husband told me he sees it in my legs, my waist, and my (starting lack of) back fat. I am glad for the back fat to be going away! I also see it in the way my clothes look on me so I'm going with it. My scale says it is so. Another pound GONE this morning. WOOT! In time, you will see the loss in yourself too.

I know exactly what your going through, At 47lbs down It's hard for me to see the difference in my body though I can feel it in my clothes and have went from a size 18-16 myself in the past 3 months. Everyone around me tells me they can see it, but not me. Maybe taking a current body shot this month and then taking another one to compare it to in 3 months time will help you see how far you've come?

Thanks everyone I do see a difference but I think it's just a mental thing, when I slip into my 16 jeans I secretly think I can't fit them and then shocked all over again lol....I'm only 10 weeks post op and I feel like I can be losing more..but I'm not going to rush it, I am going to keep doing what I'm doing and pray by at least February I'm down to a size 14 Thanks for all your advice

It's been seven months and over 100 lbs but I still see a size 28 in the mirror. Yet I look at my clothes and think they look so small now. But I've been fat for 31 of my 37 years. I figure it's going to take time for the mind to adjust.

im still the exact same size post surgery--ive maybe lost an inch, IF THAT much...it gets better. depending on your body shape, you may take a bit longer to see the inches drop off...but they will drop!

Also, you see yourself all the time, so you don't notice the small day to day changes. Try hooking up with a friend that hasn't seen you in a year or two and see what they say.

I feel like my body has lost weight and my face hasn't caught up yet. I still see the fatboy in the mirror. I try not think about it and I know that it will all catch up soon.

I'm wearing pants that are smaller now and while I don't see the difference I want to see, everyone else does and I constantly get compliments.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
