Yoga's harder than it looks!

Recommended Posts

I went to a yoga class for the first time today. It was their easiest class (called Restorative) at Yoga By Degrees. My knees were cracking loudly, and there were some easy poses I still couldn't do, but for the most part, I tried all of them as best I could. I won't lie. I was embarrassed at first and even after my 100 pound loss so far, I was the biggest person in the class, but the instructor was so kind and attentive. She also had dozens of positive messages during the class that really spoke to me.

I think I'll go back and see where this takes me. Namaste!

I LOVE yoga. There are modifications for every pose. Just do what feels good for you. And I can assure you, in a yoga class, everyone is so focused on themselves they have no clue what you or your crackly knees are doing. Lol enjoy!

That was me when I took my first pilates class. Even doing the modified positions I was wiped out! Stick with it, it gets better.

I am trying to work up the courage to attend my first yoga class at the gym. The women are so petite and flexible, unlike me. I think I will bite the bullet and just go for it on Friday. Thanks for having the courage to give it a try and to tell us about it !!

I can relate! I just did my first yoga class since surgery and learned just how inflexible I have let myself become. I've been so focused on building muscle that I'm tight everywhere. I can't believe I am less able to get into some poses than I was 100 lbs ago. Keep going to class, we can only get better!

I also did my first yoga recently, too! I also really liked it, and I agree, it is harder than it looks. It's way more interesting and fun than the traditional type exercise I am used to, as well. I don't love the up and down on the floor part though....but I know that's what I really need to work on.

Namaste :) I love yoga! Modify, modify, modify! Soon you will find that your stretches are longer and that you are able to do more. Yoga begins wherever you are.

Doesn't matter what it is, just as long as you tried something new. That's what this is all about. Getting back into life.

Oh, and just a little story from when I was a teenager. My mom and I tried a Yoga class and we got kicked out because we were laughing too hard and annoying the other people in the class. We were very sorry but it's hard not to laugh when you are told to be one with the floor.

I have been researching yoga as well...have a place to go...just have to get the courage up to get my butt there! But I'm sure I'll have to modify as well, but, I know it will be good for me and help with my RA, etc!

It's crazy how hard some of the easy LOOKING stuff is! Good for you for getting out there and trying it - that's awesome :). I know when I tried bellydancing I was all, "oh, how hard can shaking your hips be?". Thought I'd die, lol.

I know when I tried bellydancing I was all, "oh, how hard can shaking your hips be?". Thought I'd die, lol.

One of my friends tried to rope me into that a few years ago. I have no rhythm and a giant belly. Ain't happening!!

LOVE LOVE yoga! And yes find an instructor who can help you modify the poses. I started shortly after surgery and have worked my way up over the last year and am amazed at what my body is now capable of!!!! But no it is not easy, but there are ways to modify every pose to make it work for where you are at! As my favorite teacher says, there are no gold medals in yoga! Do what works for YOUR body, yoga doesn't care how it looks or if you can do what the person next to you does. Do you instagram? Lots of great yoga for bodies of all sizes there!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
