My surgery was yesterday! Tylenol help.

Recommended Posts

Well my surgery was yesterday I am doing pretty good pain wise. I have been sleepy though and not able to get up as many times as I would like. My dr. Wrote me a prescription for at home for tylenol with codeine. Codeine normally makes me tired. What other choice of over the counter tylenol can I have, does the children's liquid have a lot of sugar, what about chewables? What have you used?

I take children's Tylenol. I have had mixed results.

I thought the Tylenol with codeine would be a problem for me too. The reality is I would only take one and they really did not bother me. I only ended up taking it twice before I switched to luquid Tylenol. The reality is you should be doing some resting anyway.

I hated taking the liquid medicines because the alcohol in them and high sugar content made my pouch burn and made me jittery. I per safely better not taking anything and using a heating pad and gas x to deal with any gas pains. By day 2 home from the hospital I felt pretty good and was just dealing with managing all the fluids.

Good luck!

Not sure where you live but Walgreen's sells adult liquid Tylenol. My doc recommended. I managed with heating pad though and didn't need it.

Just make sure you aren't going over the max recommended daily dose of Tylenol. Talk to your doctor's office & your pharmacist between the two they'll know.

I personally was allowed to take the tablets by my doctor so I am seeing different doctors def tell you to do different things.

I had good luck with the junior strength chewables

I tried the adult liquid and it was too sweet for me.

i take the tablets. i actually take a lot of pills. taking pills is the worst part of my post surgery experience, so I only take tylenol when i must. My post surgical pain was very little. I don't know what that is about.

This is off the Tylenol topic but I had my gastric bypass on 12/11. I read your story and you are amazing for hanging in there so long. I am so surprised at all the stories of the 1 or 2 day stays and a little tylenol here and there. I had complications so was in ICU for 5 days for closer monitoring but went home after 8days. Now just trying to get all the Water weight I came home with. I gained about 20# in the hospital. Very discouraging! All is a process and just akes time. I keep trying to remind myself that. Hope you are doing well now.

I am so sorry to hear you had complications! I hope you are now on the road to recovery. Incidentally that Water weight should come off fairly fast. In fact 6 weeks from now, you will be wishing your weight fell off as quickly! LOL.

Good luck and take care of yourself!

Thanks for that. My belly felt so heavy! I gained 20 of the 26# I had lost preop. Got 6 more to go to call it even! :)

Sorry to hear about your complcations, glad you are doing better now though. That sucks about the 20lbs but Water weight typically come off very quickly! Best of luck on your journey!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
