OH Juli suggested I join this thread after reading the thread I started asking for help in finding a bike that would hold up under my big (although diminishing since joining the band-aid gang) frame.

This thread got me thinking about taking up bicycling again (I haven't ridden a bike since I stopped delivering newspapers at age 16). I am looking for a good low impact FUN way to exercise and this seems to fit the bill. Plus my skinny wife has said she would love to get a bike too so we can ride together.

Anyway back to my question. Where can I find an affordable bike that will hold 400 lbs? I have had some suggestions, but was wondering if a Schwinn Heavy Duti might be a good choice?

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome Jobstud! Your best bet is to go to your local bike store and have them help you find a bike!

Good news the ring is off. 2 hours later and one very painful procedure and I am ring free.

JC it just means I am stupid lol.

Jobstud, welcome to the insanity! There are a lot of different ways to go with the "heavy" biking. I chose the recumbent route. It allowed me to riding longer or further due to the relative comfort on the hind side. Sun makes some nice entry level stuff. If you seek something ore versatile the hybrids seem to be a good choice.

SUN BICYCLES

You will get a few good opinions on this thread. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions.

hi everyone

havent been on much this week, I have been working 11.50 hour days, and not getting any riding in....so I am a grouch!!!

I am going this morning for my doctor visit, and another fill. I did not get to the 270 mark that i wanted to by today..but that is ok....I have a old navy shirt on in a 2 x, and I have never ever worn anything from there, let along a 2x...

So...i am feeling good about me today.

I hope this fill will put me at the "sweet spot"....yea!!!

Well....I will honestly try and get on and chat this evening when I get home....

have a good day everyone

Really I don't don't know why you are waiting until tomorrow to try harder, you have the rest of the day.

I've actually been working this morning and neglecting you all.

What's up with that?

Job

Giant Bicycles | bikes - mountain - Rincon Blue/Anthracite

This is what my LBS dude recommended. I own a giant road bike and LOVE it.

He said it's good because it has oversized tires and stronger rims.

Also you'd want to change out the seat for a cruiser saddle, not the performance saddle that comes with it.

$350 is the MSP. You can typically get last year's modle this time of year 10-15% off.

Shwinn also has cruiser bikes that would work. Apparently reinforce rims and oversized tires are the key words you want.

And about LBS people. THEY

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
