My surgery went well so I'm told but the pain of that first night is not something I would wish on anyone. It didn't seem to matter how much dilaudid they gave me I was in incredible pain. There was discussion of ICU but that didn't happen and believe it or not the sent me home the following day. Don't remember much about Wednesday or Thursday mostly in and out of sleep and trying to drink my Water and Isopure. Yesterday was a little better but today absolutely 0 energy like hard to lift my head. I feel like I'm getting a decent amount of Protein and at least 50oz of water so I'm not sure why I can't seem to move. I spent 10 minutes on the elliptical today and slept for 6 hours. Is this normal or should I be calling my Dr or going to ER?

I was absolutely exhausted the first week, for sure. I definitely wasn't getting in as much Fluid as you, either. At just over two weeks, there have only been a couple of days that I've come home from work and haven't taken a nap. I also haven't been cleared for exercise, other than walking.

But, never take advice on here over the advice of your surgeon. Don't be afraid to call or go to the ER if you feel as though something isn't right.

What are you doing on the elliptical???? You just had major surgery, you need to rest and heal.

As long as you are getting your fluids and Proteins I think you are OK. It is very normal to be tired and lack energy. The only exercise I did for at least 2 weeks was walking.

Walking is good. It will help. My first week was rough but it does get better. Keep up your liquids, Protein and exercise. Soon you will barely remember the pain! Good luck on your journey!

Hi KCSaab,

I just had surgery this week on Monday, I am so sorry that you are not feeling well.

I would reach out to your surgeon. Yesterday was actually my best day. I am not on pain meds since Thursday. You should be starting to feeling better but since you are not you want to make sure everything is ok. I hope you feel better soon I will be praying for you.

It took me about three weeks before I began to snap back with a little energy.

Reading some of these threads makes me a little nervous. Some people describe the post-operative pain as torturous, and others say they snapped back pretty quickly. I like to think I have a high pain tolerance--I never stressed even over my worst contractions during childbirth--but it sounds like each operating is an individual experience.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
