10 must do tips for getting surgery ready!

Recommended Posts

I am having surgery on December 4th and am taking this weekend to get ready for the changes in my life. I plan on relaxing, eating a few things I am going to miss (I don't have a pre-op), amongst other things. Here is my list- read it to get ideas and post your top ten below!

Must do tasks to get surgery ready

1: clean my house top to bottom

2. Clean put the fridge and pantry and restock with our new foods and shakes, etc.

3. Make a 30 day meal plan for kids dinners and lunches, make a new bi- weekly grocery list

4. Set up my home gym area for post op and schedule my workouts for when I am healed

5. Complete all work related tasks and orders and let friends know I will be taking two weeks off

6. Take a before photo and paste it in planning binder

7. Pack for the hospital stay (will be streaming doctor house on my iPad!)

8. Make sure all bills and rents are paid up to date

9. Buy Water bottles, Protein shakers, travel Soup mugs, travel lunch box and coolers.

10: write letters to my children and family in case the worst happens in surgery. Write out a DNR and funeral inductions along with passwords to accounts and phone numbers they might need, instructions for personal belongings, etc. better safe then sorry!

That's it folks! Let's hear about yours!

Prior to surgery, the two most important items are:

1. Make sure you get your walking in each day. It helps recovery go much smoother.

2. If you have a caffeine habit, break it now. I suffered from a week of withdrawal syndrome after I cut out caffeine in my carbonated beverages. This caused very severe headaches. It is best to get this over with before surgery, then right after surgery.

Also be away that your taste buds may change substantial after surgery. So don't go overboard on buying food and Protein shakes. Anyways the amount of food that you will be consuming after surgery will be miniscule.

Nice list. I might add make sure your living will is set up and your actual will is in order. As adults, we should all do this from time to time anyway.

One additional item for me- I plan to take a two day retreat somewhere a couple of days before surgery. I hope to spend the time in prayer and also getting myself right with God and any of my family and friends. Looking forward to starting over with the new me- all the way around.

I am having surgery Dec 1st. I've written my daughters schedule out and given a copy to my family, laid out her clothes. Cleaned my house top to bottom, wrapped Christmas gifts (some I won't be able to lift after surgery) and stocked up on shakes and broth.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
