Hi there, pre-op can be hard -- the interminable waiting, the dieting, ugh. Just know you are choosing yourself and your healthy future and that is the most exciting thing in the world. It is all happening -- don't despair. Get excited because it's very exciting!

I felt much more reassured with the surgical resident explained to me that serious complications like band slippage and erosion happen in 1-3% of patients. Reading these boards it can feel more like 30-50% of people have this. So I feel good that 97% of people find long term success with the band AND I have some control of the outcome by: eating slowing, chewing thouroughly, following up with my dr once each month for the first year and then 1-2 times per year after that (forever), and making sure I'm not too tight for any length of time, and seeing a dr right away if I've been vomiting. I commit to do those things and I bet that puts me closer to 99% chance of success.

@@susancae, I had to stop reading the bad stuff. It was really starting to mess with my head. And I have enough fears without adding to it! I got banded Monday and had a bit of a freak out moment yesterday - the omg what have I done moment. But everyone here has been super encouraging. I had my little cry yesterday, slept better than I have all week, and woke up feeling great today. Just remind yourself of why YOU are doing this. I know that is a pat answer, but an honest one. This is all about freedom and the choice to do something for ourselves. You CAN do this. You are strong enough and empowered enough to do this.

I haven't seen many bad posts. Sure enjoying the good ones. This journey is about good health. I have many skinny friends that don't eat right or exercise. My good friend 57 died last month and was very skinny. Enjoy the journey to better health with the band, change of eating and more exercise. I was scared to death the two minutes before I was put to sleep. I was ready to scream STOP. Now 30 lbs lighter and feeling great I am very happy

I also had to quit reading all of the negative! After much research i chose the lap band because of the low complication rate...everyone on this forum that i have talked to is so amazing...we all go through "funk" phases! Thats why we are all here...to help eachother through these times! Dont be scared! It is a new chapter in your life!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
