Greetings and good Luck to all having surgery tomorrow!

I went to my surgeons today and she was surprised I had any Fluid in my drain, so I have to go back to the hospital tomorrow for another upper GI, to make sure the repair she did is good and rectified the problem.

She also did say that, because of the location and scar tissue I would not now, nor never be a candidate for the band. (not happy) However, she did say, I could come back in 6 weeks after I'm all healed and see if I want to go with the gastric bypass.

I'm not sure what I want to do yet. It's a big decision. Oh, well, I'm sure you will be supportive no matter what I decide to do.

Hugs and kisses to all,

Pris

MsPris-hope everything turns out ok with the upper GI. You are right that is a big decision but I am sure you will make the right decision for YOU. We will support you in any and every way. Keep us posted on your progress. Hugs:girl_hug:

Dini, I showed your cyber sis (my youngest) your pics and she said you are built just like her!!! She thinks you are very pretty too!!! See, must be true!!!!! You are way too hard on yourself!

now all thats left is to see my sister, your gonna have to post some pics of her, tel her if she ever wants to come over to Ireland her big sis is waiting for her here. Ur daughter is a very sweet girl! i keep meaning to put a full size pic of me up, one of these days!!!

Hi all. Just wanted to stop in and say hi and hope everyone is doing great. I just finished catching up on all the posts. My computer was running really slow yesterday taking forever to load a page so I just quit and came back today.

Today is day 3 with the band. I am feeling fine doing great. Finally got to take my shower. Thank goodness I felt like a grease monkey!! LOL It was the best shower I have ever taken. Still find that I tire out easily but that is to be expected. I am thoroughly enjoying my time off of work. I am doing nothing but walking, sleeping and drinking fluids. The fluids are going down very well. No problem there.

I feel great and have to say this has been a very postive experience for me. The surgery went extremely well with no pain after wards. I am fortunate because I have noticed many have problems with the gas. I hope that passes for all of you soon. Hope everyone is doing great and welcome to bandland.

Lynnette hope you get your computer going soon. I miss reading your posts.

Auntie Phyl you sound like you are doing bettter. That is great

Dini take care of your little precious gem. She is a doll.

Everyone else I am thinking of you and praying for you all.

Take care

Sorry only ment to pull my part out! i will take care of her she's my world even when she never stops crying!!!

Last night I had my first REAL meat. I got over zealous and downed a large piece of grilled chicken. Right after I swallowed I realized that I did not chew well enough and I was instantly worried that I was going to have issues. I just sat for a minute and sipped some Water. Within a couple of minutes the discomfort passed, but it really taught me a lesson about chewing!

Did your Doctor not tell you not to drink with eating. i was told even if it gets stuck not to drink its one of the major rules??

Hi All -

Yayayayayayayay!!! After I had my surgery, my doctor told me not to be surprised if I left the hospital weighing 10-15lbs heavier than when I came in, due to the amount of IV and gas that they put in me. Fortunately, I was only about 7 lbs heavier, and it was coming off very slowly, until today. I am FINALLY under the 330 mark and I am sooo excited! Bye bye 330's...NEVER again! Down a total of...39lbs!

Congratulations and well done, your totally right you'll never see that number again.

Lynette welcome HOME!!!

Chimboree girl how you doing>? i hope your well and im sure i can speak for everyone were thinking of you xxxx

I got my fiil yesterday like i said but today i've had a little pain around my chest area to the right. strange! also i'm like a PIG i can't stop belching. its so horrible and there dirty long ones too

Dini - Yes, I was told not to drink 30 min. before or 30 min. after a meal...but this is AFTER I'm done healing...the reason there is to be no drinking is that it makes everything mushy and, therefore, goes down easy and doesn't stay in the pouch to make you feel full. Since I'm recovering I've been told that it's ok to sip during a meal...I was told that I don't want to get too full because that may damage what is healing...my goal (per doc) is to make everything go down easy. Again, this is probably different for every doctor, but this was the advise I was given.

Can someone give me some input on how long the bloatness lasts? My stomach is huge. I was banded on Monday the 23rd so it has only been four days. I have even lost weight since Monday which is fantastic. I am a little more mobile. I am trying to be positive and patient, but I feel like i should be waddling down the street!

Ok...the meds are kicking in...so I am off to bed.:notagree

Ok, so now that I've caught up... here's my surgery run down.

As you know, I was pretty frecked out last night... all those guilty thoughts of not following the pre-op diet, what if thoughts, etc. But thanks to everyone, I got through it. Again THANKS!!!

Slept fitfully last night. This morning, we dropped the kids off at daycare around 8am, and I did everything I could not to start crying when I said goodbye, but my son busted me. So he said "It ok mom, you not bleed. You feel all better. I luv you" That made me laugh and cry.

This is my 9 year old son who is intellectually challenged, and hearing impaired, so his understanding is a bit different, and his speech is too.

We then started off to Toronto (around 8:30). This is usually a 2-1/2 hour drive. I was scheduled to arrive at the clinic at 12 for my 1pm surgery. So when I was still stuck on the highway at 11:30, I started to panic. So I called, and they said not to worry. The doctor was not going anywhere and my surgery would happen whenever I arrived. WOW, that put me totally at ease.

I actually did arrive on time, as the highway cleared. But then found out he was running behind, so I didn't have the surgery until 2:30.

I was still having some "what if" concerns going through my mind. Then when I hugged my DH goodbye, I started to cry. He held me tight and said "I know you'll be fine, because I love you"

They escorted me into the room and they have a surgery table that is actually comfortable! It is made for bigger people.

They were so supportive and discreet. They at least waited until I was asleep before exposing my body!!!

I woke up with no discomfort at all. I still don't feel any pain. I was expecting a lot of pain in my abdoman, and gas pain. But nothing!!!

Then at 5pm they walked me out to see my DH and loaded me into our van and off we went. I slept most of the way home, just woke up long enough to drink a bit of Water every once in awhile.

Now its 8 hours later, no more pain meds yet... will probably take some before I go to bed, but still feel fine.

See y'all tomorrow!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
