Embarassing question

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new to this forum, I just got my surgery date (December 15th) and am wondering about a question my surgeon asked me. He wanted to know if I have any bladder leakage when sneezing, coughing, lifting things or walking. I do have this happen occasionally, but was really embarrassed to admit it. I am wondering if anyone knows why he asked this question?

No clue why buy maybe some honesty would tell you. Doctors usually have reasons to ask these things. I understand the embarrassment but even telling them occasionally is ok. That's what they are there for, they aren't mind readers. But this may have had something to do with incontinence or something. Maybe bladder related.

Urinary incontinence is a comorbidity of obesity. I'd be surprised if he didn't ask.

I'm still pre-op for WLS, but leakage has also been an issue for me and it seems to be more common than you'd think. Since I have not been able to loose enough weight to take the pressure off my bladder I've tried a couple procedures to help.

For stress incontinence (sneezing, coughing, or laughing) the first was a fine mesh to put pressure on my urethra to stop leakage...worked ok for a short time. Secondly, a collagen injection around the urethra on three sides was the winner. Now sneezing & laughing don't cause any worrying. For urge incontinence (you've got to go suddenly NOW feeling), Botox injections into the bladder walls keep the bladder from wanting to "let it go" until your ready.

I had it. I'm jot afraid. I blamed it on my kiddo when in all reality I was bigger. Don't be embarrassed. :)

I had it too but with the weight loss and no more carbonated beverages (it seemed to irritate it more) I have not any more occurances. Good luck!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
