I am scheduled for surgery today. I leave for the hospital in about an hour. The nothing to drink after midnight really sucks. I could REALLY go for some ice cold Water...

I'm also super nervous about it... I feel like I'm prepared for post-op lifestyle, it's the risk of complications and short term pain that I'm concerned about at this point. I know that I have a lot of things in my favor (age, low BMI, no other health issues, experienced surgeon), but I also have two small kids at home that need their mommy.

Many of us have those same fears. I was so terrified that I even made videos, set up an email account that I sent emails to, and planned much of my own services- just in case. I have a son that I love dearly, and wanted to leave behind memories of me, advice for the future etc. They did have a hard time waking me up, and the next 48 hours really stunk.. but after that, I have done great. So even in the times it seems tough, remember that we have all been there and we have made it. We understand your worries. Praying for you today :)

Excellent news! Walking helps A LOT! I remember getting up almost every 2 hours during my hospital stay and walking.

Can't wait to read about your journey!

For me the gas pain was much worse than the pain from surgery. Here's hoping you have a speedy recovery!!!

The gas pains in my diaphragm are no joke, but otherwise I feel okay. Finally sipping Water, which tastes amazing. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
