5 days post op, gurgle coming up throat

Recommended Posts

Question the gas/gurgle sounds that can hear coming up my throat especially after I drank something. Is this just part of new sleeve and gas or is it reflux? Feels like tiny bubbles and gurgle sounds traveling from lower throat to back of throat but gas doesn't escape.

Sounds like the dreaded slimes. It can happen if you eat/drink too fast. Try slowing down & taking smaller sips.

The slimes?

This is normal and not necessarily sliming. Since your stomach is very swollen and small, gas cannot escape as directly as before, so drinking and eating are likely to cause bubbles, gurgles, and burps. Sliming on the other hand is when you produce thick excess saliva as your stomach contemplates vomiting after eating/drinking too fast or too much.

I'm over two years out and still get this daily - so guessing its just part of our new sleeve...

It's weird how different dr's progress people on their eating schedule. I was on full liquids until 21 days, so 23 days total including pre-op. Then I was allowed to try eggs at 22 day mark post-op. I am not allowed to try chicken until 4 weeks. A friend had this done.. and she was able to progress food-wise much quicker also. Best of luck, hope all goes well :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
