What are you excited for?

Recommended Posts

Excited that I no longer have to buy wide width shoes, can fit designer labels (size large), no longer have to put "plus sized women clothing" in the Google search engine! Oh, now walk right past the plus size clothing stores. Yeah, simply walked into Target and bought some $10 yoga pants (large). Point is, no more plus size section.......in over 27 years.

You all are on such a great journey and are going to feel better and better! I began losing weight mid-January this year. My surgery was the end of July. So far this year I have:

  • Lost over 100 lbs
  • Went from size 46 pants to size 36 (and still dropping!)
  • Quit smoking
  • Quit sodas
  • Quit caffeine
  • Quit most processed foods
  • Started exercising (cardio + strength training) 4-5 days a week
  • Cured sleep apnea
  • Cholesterol normalized
  • Cured diabetes (I was pre-diabetic) pre-surgery
  • Blood pressure normalized
  • Bought a fantastic new wardrobe

Let me tell you all...I just went on vacation and I sat in the airplane seat and I cold cinch the belt halfway now. I needed an extender before. If any of you have been in that embarrassing situation, let me tell you...cinching an airplane belt is a huge validation! I could've cried. I could cross my legs too!

While on vacation I walked for HOURS without problem. I even went hiking for several hours. Not a pain in my back or legs. I felt HEALTHY.

food still tastes delicious, but it only takes a small amount to get that full feeling that I could never seem to get before surgery. food doesn't rule my life now. Eating is actually sort of nuisance at times...I'd rather be doing something else, but I haven't eaten in four hours lol! I can't believe that.

I bought some chili while on vacation and I had to throw half of it away because I was full. I don't think I've ever thrown food away in my life. I'm still laughing at that.

Keep those positive attitudes folks! You will still have to do the work, but the sleeve is the most incredible tool I could've hoped for!

Don't forget that there will be many great victories along the way to your goal weight...those are the non-scale victories (NSV) you'll see so many of us talking about.

Best of luck to you all!

I'm looking forward to just general respect - something that is sorely lacking when you're on the plus size.

Of hopping on the train during peak hour and not feeling like a terrible person because I go over into the other seat a little bit.

Of being able to fit in a plane seat & travel.

To have a man look at me across the room & smile cause he thinks I'm pretty and not because he and his mates are having a joke about my weight.

To wear pretty bras again and show off my cleavage (thought it might be a bit saggy!!!).

To maybe finally feel worthy of love, success, anything!

Of not feeling ashamed of myself anymore for nothing more than being fat.

I rock my high heels fat... Lol but I am excited to rock any outfit I choose! mostly I'm excited to be able to have the ability to tumble and play with my 5 yo daughter. ????

I haven't worn heels because I don't wear anything nice enough that requires heels, especially dresses/skirts because I couldn't stand my fat ankles and calves. Plus at my heaviest (268), I did well to walk period! But things are changin! And I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be a shoe diva again like I was when I was younger and MUCH slimmer.

I'm excited for....

cute summer dresses, running my first 5k, shopping wherever I want, getting to Onederland, helping other people, not feeling out of place with my pretty and skinny friends, line dancing, going to the beach.

I'm down almost 100 pounds so far and am hoping to get to my goal weight by my first anniversary of my surgery date.

I am excited that at some point I won't have a belly that hangs down. Even my boss will catch a glimpse of it sometimes. Every time someone looks at it I die a little inside. I had two cesareans too so it's not just the weight but can't wait to lose it!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
