Calcium citrate- Critacal

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if Citracal is ok to take for calcium citrate? I know my nutritionist was really specific and suggest I order from Bariatric Advantage if I couldn't find Calcium citrate. I attached pictures of the label. Thanks for your help!

I'm almost 4 months out and my surgeon/nut said that citrical was fine and that I could stop the chewable calcium(bariatric advantage). You may want to double check what dosage they recommend specifically for you. I like the petite tablets also!

I have used Citrical beginning right after surgery. I am 18 months post-op RNY. There is a couple things of note here.

1) The dosage on the bottle is for two tablets, so to obtain the proper dosage, I had to consume 6 a day. These had to be spaced out 2 pills every 2 hours or so.

2) These are large horse pills. They were too big for me to swallow right after surgery. That meant I had to use a pill crusher. I put the powder (crushed pills) in a small glass of liquid (crystal light) and drank it. Then I had to add more liquid because there was still wet powder in the bottom of the glass and try again. This Calcium powder tasted awful. After a few months life became significantly easier when I found that I could now swallow these horsepills.

My NUT said they were fine for me to take pretty much right after surgery. Just like @@James Marusek , they were way too big and were getting stuck so I switched to the chewable for the first 2 months. I recently found a calcium citrate capsule at Vitamin Shoppe that goes down really easy. Same dosage as Citrical - 2 capsules 3 times a days in 2 hour intervals. I love them- easy to swallow, I can zip down the street to get them when I'm out, and they are really inexpensive!

I am pre-op and through the various blood tests I had done, found out my Calcium & Vitamin were low. So I started on the Citracal Petites. I was amazed at how big the petites are, I can't imagine how big the regular Citracal are! Anyway, I take 2 tablets 2 times a day, which is the dosage I will have to take after surgery according the the dr.

I take two a day now. For the first six months following surgery I used Bariatric Advantage chews, which were REALLY good, but expensive. Critical Petites have worked great for me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
