My doctor didn't say he won't do it when I went to his seminar. He just said he prefers the gastric bypass. If he was to get it done he would get the bypass. I think that I would succeed with the land band. I've succeeded with diet pills in the past losing 70 lbs but they make my heart rate go up to high. And I've been on blood pressure meds for 5 years. I know that Bp is genetic, every single person in my family has hbp, whether they are small or big. I know even when I loose the weight having hbp is still a possibility My mom is on 2 meds n weighs 130

Did he mention the sleeve at all? From what I gather many doctors who no long do the band are adding the sleeve as an option.

Do you have the option of seeking another doctor? When I was researching I looked at 2 different hospitals in my area.

I agree with @@stanpry regarding using Myfitnesspal or some form of a food diary. Like it or not most of us are food addicts. We have unhealthy relationships with food. Recording every bit you put in your mouth is the best way to hold yourself accountable. In the past when I lapsed in using the diary I found I tended to assume I had things in control. I've been using a diary for 3 years now and I am still surprised at no only how high in calories something may be but also things like how much sodium and sugar are in some things. Using the app helps keep me on the straight and narrow.

So I met with my doctor today. He said he would do the lapband but he didn't help much. Saying that it was going away, dr not doing it anymore. I asked if he seen doctors doing fills in next 5 years n he said probably not. I think he just confused me more n hate how he's not completely on board with my decision. Ugh sorry had to vent

I'm pretty sure if a surgeon does a procedure, they're required to maintain the band (fills/unfills as needed) for their patient for as long as they have the device.

Not sure about the rest of the story- if you move away or the doc dies or whatever.

something to check into to help inform your decision

can you go to a different doctor? I'm sorry he doesn seem on board. I had a revision from lap band to bypass, I originally wanted the sleeve but my doctor felt I would get the same results as the band. I thought about it and felt the same. I know possibly finding a different doctor will push your timelines back but you'd rather be happy with your doctor rather than resent him later.

It doesn't matter which surgery you chose. They all work because it is a restriction and tool that gives you the tools to get your mind healthier and fix the reasons for the self abuse of food addiction.

I was going to have the Lap-band but decided on the sleeve. My choice but like I said they are all successful procedures that will help with the underlying problems. The rest is up to you hun.

I was band to sleeve revision and lost 160# post sleeve. First surgeon I went to pushed me to bypass saying my failure with band would be repeated with sleeve. I went to a different surgeon who made a strong case for t h e sleeve and 3 Years out I feel he was right in my case.

Point is lots of varying opinions out there. Get a second opinion. My surgeon gave me copies of researc studies to help me learn about actual results over just individual success or failure stories on a forum.

What I will say is I was anti bypass 3 years ago. I am so "pro" being slender these days I'd have no problem with bypass if thats what it takes.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
