What kind of surgery did you have? Are you eating 8 ozs per day or in one sitting? What did your nutritionist say?

My surgery was in 6 weeks ago. I started puree foods a couple of weeks ago. I am eating between 1.5 to 2.5 ozs per meal. I should be eating three meals but I am not.

I would speak to your nutritionist. In my experience (RNY 4 months ago) 8 ounces is a lot. You should eat a meal in 20 minutes.

I am currently eating between 1/4 and 1/3 cup per meal ( 2-3 ounces). Are you losing weight?

I still think you should ask your nutritionist I don't think I will be eating 8 ounces until I am at goal. I've lost 80 pounds in 16 weeks

I agree with the others here. I think one of the important things to remember. You can eat all day and do a little at a time and still get as many calories as you ate before. Don't feel bad about what you have been doing just check with your program and start following it now. These first three years I hear is where you learn the tools that we need to be successful for years. Hope the rest of your journey is great!

As far as the length of time of meals, I would try to keep it at 30 minutes. You don't want to have your pouch start to empty out while you are still eating creating more room for more food. I was told meals should be between 20-30 minutes, but not longer, Perhaps this is why you never get a full feeling. My problem is that I don't spend enough time per meal! Best of luck!!

I too had bypass 5 weeks ago today. I can barely get 3 oz. in and I am stuffed. I was told 3 meals per day and then 3 Protein shakes per day and most days I can do my 3 meals but only 2 Protein shakes.< /p>

I have lost 37 lbs since my surgery date. I would definitely talk to your nutritionist. The other thing I was told was not to take longer than 30 minutes to eat and not to drink liquids 30 minutes before or a minimum of 30 minutes after or you could be flushing.

Not sure if that is how it works but that is how I understand it.

Good luck.

It is way to early for you to be eating like this and you could be doing damage to your unhealed pouch.

I'm 13 months out and I rarely eat that much and if I do it's yogurt never meats.< /strong>

You better talk to your nutritionist fast and have them go over your plan with you again because I don't think you understand what you should be doing properly.

Your surgeon even might want to check you to see if you have done any damage.

Watch what you are doing from now on and make a new start.

Six days out. I eat three times a day each time about ¼ cup of pureed foods. Beans and split peas. I can put in 2 oz (weight) of chicken or fish. But the meat must be blended along with everything else. Nothing that would not fit in a drinking straw. I have no dumping or anything else. I think this is what I should be doing. I do this for another week, and then I go to see my PA. Then, I go to the next level, Soft foods. This is already starting to sound exciting to me. I tire out more easily than I want. I am working on this part, too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
