How can I increase my protein intake during the first four weeks post op...?

Recommended Posts

Try looking for GENEPRO Protein powder. It's tasteless, odorless and one tablespoon has 30 grams of protein. I put it into my yogurt and in milk. I'm onto pureed foods now and it's still a staple in my receipes. Lots of luck!

I use Ispure. It has 60grams per two scoops. I use less liquid with my shakes. I can drink them easier. For two scoops I use 8oz of liquid instead of 12oz. I'm almost 3 weeks post

I purchased Unjury unflavored Protein powder prior to my surgery. After surgery, I added one scoop to 24 oz of Crystal Light one to two times a day. It's 21 grams of protein. Because of this I was meeting my protein goal of 60 grams post op day #4. Now, 6 1/2 weeks later I am down to 1 scoop a day. It's a lifesaver.

Just an FYI...I read that the body can not absorb large amount of Protein at 1 time 20-30 grams max per serving.

3 meals and 3 Snacks a day, try starting with Protein at each serving for all 6 n it helps chip away at the protein and keeps your metabolism up to burn fat.

Besides Protein Powder-some food choices are

Scramble egg whites

Greek yogurt

chicken or tuna salad ( home made- low fat)

Fat free cheese

Skim Milk

Ground Beef or Turkey

Home made Soups with shredded meat

I used to hate Greek yogurt then I learned to "tolerate" it. Now, I really don't mind it at all. I have it in some ort of way at every meal. I mix with things to make a sauce for chicken, turkey etc. This has helped keeps the meats really soft and much easier to eat. I was having problems with food getting stuck and coming back up, now, it's not really a problem any more. I always have plain Greek yogurt in the refrigerator. Best of luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
