October Sleevers,

I need help!!!! I am not losing correctly. I am so frustrated and falling apart emotionally.

I had surgery October 8th. I will be 6 weeks on Wednesday. I weighed 250 on the day of my surgery. Today I am 229 and I gained 2 pounds in the last 2 days. I have lost 21 pounds in 6 weeks and I had a 3 week stall. I lost 3 pounds after the stall. I could do better on Atkins on my own.

I track every calorie down to the what I use to cook with, which at this point is not much. I have a hard time getting my shakes down let alone my Water. I am getting about 50 grams of Protein from shakes. I can't seem to eat any solid Protein without a lot of pain. I can get at the most 32 oz of Water a day. I am trying to force 500-650 calories a day. I walk every day. 10,000 steps and I work out 3 days a week in another type of exercise. I have tried to increase my calories by eating healthy fats like avocado and cheese. Nothing has changed.

Any ideas?

Hopefully things turn around for you soon. You should talk to your nutritionist about your gain and stall. I was told that little stalls here and there are normal but I wouldn't consider a three week plateau a stall. Talking to your nutritionist may help you discover the reason your not in a calorie deficit.

Best wishes,

Ken

Hi kbuska! I had surgery also on Oct. 8th and as of today I have been on a stall for 3 weeks. I went to my doctor yesterday and he says not to worry and to be patient. I am also doing everything to a tee and the scale has not moved. I am so frustrated. He even said that I am not at the point of slowing down on my losing yet. I sure hope not because I lost the first 3 weeks and that was it. Keep me posted on your progression and I will do the same. I would be happy to lose 1 pound at this point! What has your doctor said is causing this. Just curious?

Made it to the gym this morning. Only lasted 30 min. It's hard because I'm used to going for 1 hour and I usually burn 400-600 cal a day. I walked b/w 3.0-3.5 on the treadmill and had to stay on Level 1 on the elliptical at 2.9-3.4. I'll try again tomorrow. 239 cals burned.

great job. I haven't cheated either but I have lost about 27lb. Sad part is no one has noticed yet. What does your daily plan look like? Thinking I need to exercise more but hard with my knee issue. Getting better

Hello all! What are people eating these days? I feel stuck in a rut and not breaking 500 cals most days i just don't know what to eat, I have my fill of refried Beans and mashed potatoes for a lifetime. I'm in the mechanically soft food stage according to my surgeon's program. I will be 6 weeks out on Tuesday.

Do you like cottage cheese? Lots of Protein in it. Greek yogurt is good too. I had cream of wheat this morning with Protein Powder in it and it tasted great. I also like eggs and usually add some cheese to them.

I am 6 weeks out but have been able to eat regular food as I tolerate it for tHe past 3 weeks per my surgeon. I have become a great fan of Wendy's chili. I can only eat about half of a small but that gives me 2 meals. I still can not tolerate eggs or Greek yogurt, 2 of my favorites,

@ jstrong630 I will also be 6 weeks on Tuesday. I have eaten a lot of potatoes and applesauce. One of my new favorites this week was a bit of pizza sauce and cheese on some wheat crackers and broiled. I also made some low fat cracker dips. Felt good to eat something that tasted good!

I went to health foods store and and found Apple gate natural chicken patties 60 cals, very low fat and low carbs, only 5g of Protein. ElMonterey chicken & Monterey Jack cheese burrito 14g protein (fat and carbs a little high so plan ahead) silk Soy milk 8g protein for 8oz, Eda-zen natural edamame soy Beans 1/2 cup 14g protein. I love watermelon. I'm on puréed foods but I don't purée anything. I just eat slow and chew well. I'm still looking for more food ideas because I get board easily. I also had turkey chili!

I am 5 weeks out and I am not allowed any carbs like Pasta potato creme od wheat oatmeal etc..until I reach goal. Again my dr is strict and I am adapting. I had a can of chicken for lunch. Much better than my liquid diet of 5 weeks

That has to be challenging. I'm 3 wks out the only restrictions I have are beef, pork, pasta, nuts, and raw veggies. I can have crackers, wraps, pitas, most fruit, fish, chicken, turkey, Beans, potatoes in moderation, Condiments, deli meat, cheese and other dairy, etc.

I am having a hard time with my taste buds changing post op and the fact that I already don't care for milk, eggs, and fish. I've been trying various options for dressing up chicken but I'm pretty much over that too. Nothing tastes the same anymore and it's hard to eat something I don't like.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
