Bailey Bariatrics in Owasso

Recommended Posts

Hey there. I had an apt with Dr Varnell today. He added a few new meds to help with the nausea. He thinks I may have an ulcer. I go back in 2 weeks and if I'm still hurting he's going to do a EGD on me to see what's going on.

I am having the sleeve at Bailey on Tuesday! I am using Dr Katsis. I'm super scared but I know about 10 people who have had WLS at Bailey and they all did fine.

Shonne17, I had to meet all copays and deductibles up front. They call you when surgery is scheduled to let you know the amount to be PD before surgery date.

Tawnya71 thanks. I'm doing better. It's just going to take me a little bit longer time to heel. Dr Kirk and Dr Varnell have both been really great and they are on top of things.

I wasn't given a calorie goal, only Protein goal and a list of approved foods. But I'm only 2 weeks post op. I've been getting less than 500 calories. I know some people who are 2 years past surgery and they eat around 1000 calories a day. I think if you try to hit your protein goal and choose lean/low fat foods, you probably don't need to worry about calories.

Who knows how many calories we are supposed to get after surgery? I'm so confused.

I think we get so trained on calories as we grew up that after surgery we assume that we need to count calories. The main thing I was told is focus on my Protein and Water. Staying hydrated is key as well as making sure to taking your Vitamins. I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday and just met with Renee last week. They should have given you a guide for after surgery. I know I told the dietician. That the guide was very confusing and I had a bunch of ideas on how to simplify her. After skimming threw this thread I think I will email her Monday. How far out from surgery are you? I asked Renee a ton of questions for after surgery to clearify. They biggest thing she kept reiterating was don't over do just because you think you need the calories. That's how we can't hurt ourselves.

My bad, I just realized this was from 2 weeks ago! Hope you were able to figure out your question.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
