November Banders

Congrats, meggs353! How are you feeling now, physically and mentally? Did you take any meds due the gas pain, like Gas-X or anything?

Today was my first day back to work. It went ok. I was not too tired but am hungry around 3pm. I woke up last night to pee and was ravenous. I had a Protein shake and went back to bed. My shoulder pain is still there and i am hoping it goes away soon. That is the worst part!

Im down 35 lbs from my starting weight including pre op diet. My first fill is December 3rd.

I wore my work pants today and they looked ridiculous but I'm not sure I could fit into a smaller size yet. I was a size 24.

Someone here wisely told me to make a mini goal so mine is 50lbs. Then I'm treating myself to a facial.

Briefs, what was your surgery date? Have you told anyone at work you're doing this?

I was banded 11/4. I only told one friend at work and she is overweight as well. Today she asked me to go out to lunch. I couldn't believe it. I think she's going to be a problem for me.

Yikes, sorry about that!! I stay at home (recently quit working so I could home school my 5th grader) so I don't have to deal with that, but I'm still not telling very many people. Especially not my husband's family. I just don't think they would be supportive. But I get banded on Monday and I won't have to visit them out of town until Christmas.

I have another question as well, if you don't mind. Of your 35#, how many have been post-op?

Hi Keeper, 1 day post-op now and physically I'm okay. I've been taking 1000mg of Tylenol every 4 hours, and that helps. I have soreness in my belly, and along my chest, back and shoulder from the gas pains. I was taking gas-x yesterday but then I read gas-x doesn't help bc the gas is pumped in your abdominal cavity not your stomach. Walking and a heating pad on my shoulder have helped though. I don't have any appetite, I've just just been sipping a lot Clear Liquids. I got down 1 Protein Shake yesterday, and 1 today, but that's it. Mentally I am looking forward to feeling better, and looking forward to eating real food again (eventually). Hoping I'll get at least 2 Protein Shakes in, in the days to come.

Keeper

Since surgery I am down 10lbs. I gained 3 after surgery but that came off in a day or 2.

I am just getting off liquids tomorrow so I'm thinking my weight loss may slow down once I'm on mushy food.

Struggling with my liquid diet today. Yesterday was hard, too, because there were times when I wasn't hungry but just wanted to eat. I didn't though. and I haven't today, either. Just mentally struggling. just 4 more days to go. 4 days.

I do have a quick question for those already banded. I assume your doc prescribed you pain pills like mine did. Because I am allergic to codeine, he game me Tramadol, which makes me pretty sleepy. I don't work so that isn't an issue, and I tend to have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I am just curious for those banded, have you been in pain, or felt the need to use your scripts?

My doc gave me a script for a pain killer in the Vicodin family. We had to fill it at the hospital since it's a liquid that most pharmacies don't carry. So far I've used it the 2 nights after surgery. During the day I've been taking 1000mg of Tylenol every 4 hours. I'm only 2 days post op, but I'm noticing the pain lessen each day.

The first night I stayed at the hospital and I think I was given the same meds you talked about.

I got a hydro codeine liquid which I never used. When I got home I used liquid Tylenol. I didn't have a hernia repair which I understand may make recovery more painful.

I was afraid to use the script bc I was so constipated just from the anesthesia so I tried to just use Tylenol.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
