How did you know that you had developed one? I had three days of injections in the hospital and went home last Thursday night. The nurses removed the leg massagers on the 2nd day and didn't send me home with compression socks like I hoped they would. I got up to walk every hour once I got home. I hope things get better for you.

You could have a genetic predisposition to clotting. I swear by going to a hemoglobin doctor. It seems that everyone has a different opinion on how, when, where..I was finally sent to a hemoglobin doc, and it made a world of difference. They should be doing extensive blood work, testing all sorts of things. Best wishes to you.

No,when i was sent home i had no calf pain,it was not until i was done taking my seven days of lovenox.about a week after that i notice the pain.

Which hospital sent you home with calf pain? They could have taken an ultrasound before discharging you.

Very common after any surgery. Once you get a DVD you are predisposed to getting them again. If you take any form of birth control of hormonal replacement therapy (sorry, I don't know how old you are!), please let your PCP or OBGYN know that you developed this complication. If you used to smoke before surgery, give it up permanently. Good luck to you, and you were so smart to know what to look for and seek medical help.

Btw, to the other posters, those anti-embolic stockings (TED hose) are sold everywhere. You can get them at any drug store or Walmart. They're in the old people aisle. Lol!

Bittersweet,

The generic compression stockings (like the ones from Wal-Mart) are not the kind you are suppose to use. I don't know if you have ever worn them before, but there is a specific type that most hospitals use for preventing DVT. You actually have to be fitted for them before surgery. Not every hospital does this and every persons situation is different.

Yes, thank you, I am well aware that the store versions are a different grade. They are however, bettter than nothing. Everyone is at risk for DVTs after surgery, and that risk is compounded by other factors that many obese people have (hypertension and diabetes); some precaution should be taken, especially if you are laying around a lot after surgery - which no one should do!

And there's no "fitting" for them. They come in small to x-large and we just eyeball how fat someone's leg is and select the appropriate size! Btw, the trick to putting them on is to slip the plastic bag the hose comes in top of the foot, covering the toes, and put it on like pantyhose. Slip the bag off of the foot through the toe opening and then do the other leg. =)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
