Maybe because I'm a mod I don't have the option. Oh well. ;) (I wouldn't use it, anyway.)

It's probably not technically feasible on a thread level, or I'm sure Alex would have done it that way. But this is a great measure that people can use temporarily if a forum is getting on their nerves. Thanks, Alex!!!

Yeah, this type of thing would be a headache for the tech person. Thanks Alex for trying to figure it out.

Well, I guess I don't comunicate well. Nothing new. When I brought this whole thing up, it wasn't about hiding it from myself. Now that I know what the R&R section is, I can avoid the topics I don't want to read. My concern was for the new member who don't know and jump in unknowingly. They won't know TO hide the forum. But, it seems my suggestion is not what is wanted, so we can leave it at that. Just trying to point out an area that I thought might be able to be improved IMHO. Sorry it caused so much drama.

Neal, I thought you communicated your thoughts very clearly, but you're right: there wasn't a lot of sentiment for editing the site for newbies' eyes. But I do think letting members mask forums they're not interested in is a great feature. So for being the impetus behind that improvement, we thank you sincerely!!

Any objection to closing the poll now?

Neal,

I thought your point was very valid. I also agree that new people can often barely figure out how to add a signature or do searches in this forum. I doubt very seriously that they'll know how to edit options to the extent of blocking whole forums which doesn't sound like a good choice to me, either.

I've been on this board since it's inception and only begun using the 'list subscriptions' probably this past year. People tend to think that everyone know what they know immediately, when we were all 'newbies' once ourselves and over time learned the little tricks. But it is the nature of the beast. I see nothing wrong with adding a button to check 'hide this thread'. There are buttons all over this board for other features. I do sincerely appreciate your efforts in trying to provide an option for those who may wish to sort the folders into something more suitable to their sensitivities. You are to be commended for trying to think of others before yourself.

Neal is one of the more kind-hearted fellows you are going to run across. I appreciate that as well.

I can't vote. It gave me the results of the poll, but nowhere to click my

choice. I think it should stay the same because it says right on the

new posts section which area the post is in. If it says Rants, and someone

clicks on it, that's their choice.

Ignor Option

-AND-

Other - Add a pop-up window that re-states the RNR motto that the viewer has to close before they see the thread they linked to.

Oh that's a good idea. We have pop up windows at work that are

a great feature to remind us to do one tiny little thing that messes

everything up if you forget this detail.

I would think that a pop up window that you are in RnR and enter at your own risk would solve everything.

I, for one, would find it unbearably obnoxious to face a "warning screen" or "pop-up window" EVERY SINGLE BLEEPING TIME I want read a post in Rants and Raves. I also note that Rants and Raves-type comments frequently are found on other types of threads as well. For example, this thread is in "Lap Band Talk Lounge." So I don't think a "Warning Page" would solve anything.

I find it shocking that people feel that they need protection from a little robust bantering. Frankly, I'm embarrassed for anyone who feels that way. I think you are being ridiculous.

Fortunately, when this type of thing has come up before, the owner of this site has had the wisdom to tell people, in essence, to "get over it," and to just ignore anything you are not interested in. I fervently hope he continues with that approach.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
