Thyroid Level Issues

Recommended Posts

Today is my first appt with the surgeon. While walking in the building I get a call from my PCP telling me that my thyroid level is still very high. I had discussed the sleeve surgery with him over a year ago and he told me that we need to get my thyroid in check. When I saw him Saturday, he said ok since I practically beg him every time I see him. He took blood work while I was there and now I'm getting this news while going into this appointment. My meds have to get increased again. I'm so afraid the surgeon is going to tell me to wait. Mind you my meds have been increasing over a 5 year period little at a time from 50 mg to now 275 mg. Does anyone have thyroid issues? What was your outcome?

My thryroid has been in check (cept for a few off labs and a few tweaks with my dosage) for the last 10 yrs or so. Thought I'd hafta lower my dosage when I lost weight. Hasn't happened yt and I've lost 100 lbs.

I take Levothyroxine.

Good luck with ur surgery!

My thyroid issues were never discussed as far as prepping for my WLS. My levels were in the acceptable ranges however. I have been working with my PCP since my surgery to get the correct dosage. Seems things have changed a bit over the past 3 months, but nothing alarming.

Marfar7... I use the same meds. Well surgeon didn't seem to think my hypothyroidism would be a problem. A lot of stuff to read and look at these out of pocket costs.

I also have thyroid, I take synthroid 250mg, I was diagnosed 2005.. My Surgeon was aware of my thyroid condition, but he said it wouldn't interfere with my surgery . I was sleeved on 9/24 and I just did my blood work this pass Monday, So I'm very curious how my numbers look. I guess every surgeon is different , my doctor of 10 yrs also stated my thyroid condition would not prevent me from having surgery, he also gave the clearance for me to be sleeved.

I had my thyroid and para thyroids removed three years ago and just had a sleeve done with no issues. I only take 175 with no thyroid at all. My tsh, t3, and t4 have been good for a long time. I am fortunate enough to have a very recognized endo. The hardest part was getting dialed in, he said it takes over a year and it did. The biggest help was taking the meds at the same time everyday on an empty stomach and not consuming anything for at least a half hour. And he will not let me take generic, said most people will not be steady on generic. Because different manufacturers have different fillers.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
