HELP NEED INPUT PLEASE!

Recommended Posts

I am looking for any other banders who might have experienced this trouble. I was banded May 2013 and have done great didn't have a huge BMI but have lost 60 pds and doing well except my pain around port area. I experience this "stinging" nabbing pain around my port and TR here in Dallas they have done one exray and they say it looks ok. I could not tolerate any liquid in my port so I've never had 1 fill only at time of surgery and after surgery in 2013 I had to have all but 1/2cc taken out. LIke I said I've done well lost my weight, feel wonderful but this pain is not everyday 24/7 but it's there and achy. It really hurts when I bend over, so fellow banders any other people found this symptom to happen to them, and if so what did you do? Any input will greatly be appreciated. True Results just says I had gas, but I beg to differ with them, its not gas, it is a completely different pain or hurting than gas. I do know what gas feels like and its not that!!

Thanks!

That is odd. You might want to demand a X-Ray(fluoroscope) to see if the tube is misplaced or if the port is hung up on something?

This is all weird. If you haven't had any fills except in surgery, how do you know you can't tolerate fills. And the fills just go into your port to your band. As for the pain, why are you having it? Mine is not comfortable if I lean against it or put pressure on it too hard, but other than that, I don't hardly know its there.

Hi there, I cannot feel my port at all -- there's a small protrusion but no discomfort, etc. It looks like you have almost made it to your goal of 137 If you've lost 60 pounds and started at 197 (might want to update your profile) -- could that have something to do with how your port is positioned, etc.? I would definitely be on my medical professionals to help diagnose any pain or discomfort. This doesn't sound right.

@@Jkgbander I would ask them to check that port area again for you just to put your mind at ease that nothing is wrong.

Since you have lost weight it could be that your port is extra sensitive now that it is closer to the surface then before the weight loss.

Occasionally my port area bothers me as well. Sometimes I don't have to do anything, just wake up in the morning and it's a bit sore.

I have a very small torso area and where my port sits is right at the point that my desk at work is, and sometimes if I am doing crunches or bending from that area it irritates me. I have also pulled the muscle in my side once or twice and caused some additional discomfort to that area.

The more weight I lose the closer I get to having port revision surgery for this reason, I know I will "need" to have a lower profile port put in.

That said all my issues with the port are related to the muscle, there are other internal things that could be the cause of pain and discomfort such as a port infection and you want the Dr. to rule those out for you. So go back and tell them that you want to be sure that there is no infection in the port, or the surrounding area and then see if an ice pack helps at the site.

If you've had this pain since the beginning, it almost sounds like the port was placed in a way that is irritating a nerve. Once they rule out infection or any other acute problem, maybe they can move the port to a different spot?

Sometimes I'll have sensitivity around my port, but it goes away. Like Lisacaron, mine is placed right where my desk and the waist of my pants hit it. Every time I sit down, I have to pull the waist of my pants up over the port. I considered revision surgery (lower profile port placed on the underside of the muscle), but didn't want more surgery at this point. If I lose anymore weight, I may bite the bullet and have it done.

Good luck to you... I hope your surgical team is able to figure this out.

Thanks for all the helpful responses. The reason I cannot tolerate fills is after surgery they put 4 cc in and I was absolutely in pain excruciating actually and after 1 week they removed all but 1/2cc. Also since I've done well losing weight they didn't feel I needed to have liquid put back in and I know how to control my portions and not to overeat.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
