Hi

I had my surgery last Wednesday and although the pain has gone I can feel my stomach is still swollen. My question is is it normal, that I feel slightly more extended on my left side just by the bottom of my left rib, closer to the middle of my stomach. I keep getting more bloated around that area, and it feels a little hard.

I thought it would go down but still not. I also thought it might be where they put the port and that is why it is slightly rounded, could that be right? Did anyone else have the same feeling?

I am going to get my stitches out and to see the Dr on Sunday but just wondered if anyone else had felt the same.

Sounds all normal to me but if you have any questions just call the doctor's office. They are there just for that! Congratulations on your surgery!

Sounds normal to me and you're also describing exactly where my port is positioned and if memory serves that was tender for a couple of weeks. Probably didn't help that my cat jumped on me in my sleep 2nd night banded. Any doubts check in with your Surgeon. That's why they're there. :)

Good Luck!

That's where my port is located as well and it took longer for that incision to heal. Best wishes to you -- surgery behind and now it all begins! Almost a year out now and I can barely recall those early weeks but I do remember how much the walking helped.

Agree with everyone that's where port is located and if I remember was bloated and sore for a few weeks. Even now when you bend a certain way sometimes i still get that little reminder that its there. But make sure you share all these concerns with your surgeon. Good luck on your Journey! :)

What you've described is exactly where my port is as well. You are perfectly normal. Also, don't be surprised if bumping into something reminds you that your port is there. I was moving stuff around the house last week, and bumped my tummy with a box. Immediately my body said "Hey, DUMMY! Stop beating on your port!" LOL!

I had surgery last Wednesday as well and just saw my doctor today. He said it is totally normal to still feel bloated which I am. Also, my port is located on the right side and the area is very tender and he said that is normal as it is still healing. I am back to work tomorrow. Good luck in your recovery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
